square terminal built in barcode scanner

square terminal built in barcode scanner

I would love to see a truly wireless square terminal with a barcode scanner built inside. I would love to walk up to a customer waiting in line, scan an item with the square terminal, tap their card, and print a receipt all in seconds, with no extra wires, hubs etc…to move along our holiday lines.

Hey @manchestercraft

Thank you so much for submitting this Feature Request! I've updated it to the "Open" status. This step in the Feature Request process will be a time in which other sellers can add their use cases to your idea to make it stronger and demonstrate further how much it is needed. Later on, we'll re-visit the most popular feature requests in the "Open for Votes" status and bring them to product teams.

To other sellers that see this feature, please “like” the post and reply with a use case that your business would have. This will help to signal that this feature request is even more important to address.

This would be amazing. Especially at fairs or small events. The ability to go to the customer and do a transaction would be very efficient and avoid long lines which may detract other customers from shopping with you. I believe the Apple Store does something similar and it’s always been an easy experience when I’ve shopped there

This would be amazing! So many people are in a rush to purchase items during the holidays and this feature would knock down the lines that tend to deter shoppers around the holidays. Also, like mentioned, it would help at craft fairs as well. Long lines/waiting always deter people from shopping at certain places/times and people tend to forget to go back where they saw the item before they need it. I feel this would tremendously help with that.

This would be a great addition in my brick and mortar store as well for use during events or busy  sale days for faster checkout by temporary event staff

I need this capability in my store. We have rushes around all the holidays where we take custom orders. Someone waiting to check out currently has to wait until we finish taking the custom order. This would speed up the process so much. Please please please make this come to fruition.

We do a lot of personal interaction with customers. It would be so helpful to be able to then scan items and take payment on the spot. Even enabling bluetooth barcode scanning to Square Terminal would get us there, albeit with two devices to cary.

This would be amazing to see come to life. As @douglsmith said, even just having the ability to connect the bluetooth barcode scanner to the square terminal would be a giant step in the correct direction, and I'm sure square would see plenty of orders for their bluetooth barcode scanner coming through following a firmware upgrade rolling out.

In retail this would allow me to quickly scan and checkout customers anywhere using only one device to scan barcodes and process payments. Although this can be done currently if you have a barcode scanner you need to have wires attached or separate device to scan. It would create a very efficient process if it could be done all in one device leading to a frictionless consumer experience, and would require less hardware on my end as well.

Where do I find this "Open for votes" area.  I would put my name down immediately.

This really should be implemented. With other companies offering an all in one terminal that has a built in scanner, Square is falling behind. There is high need for an all in one with scanning to make craft fairs easier and faster to assist customers. I know about a dozen customers who would gladly purchase the terminal if it could connect bluetooth to a scanner or even be an all in one device.  We have a large inventory of various products and checkout is cumbersome and takes time to search for products which we prefer since we use square to track inventory. Most places we setup, we don't have access to electricity so the Hub would not work at most locations. It also took me about 2 hour of research to find this thread and I'm guessing most people won't research that far to comment, like, and do whatever to get this to be a higher priority. We would really like this feature as it would improve our customer's experience and make checkout quicker without the need to plug into power. I'd happily be a beta tester.
