We need the ability to select (and "consume") items from inventory with each sale. Both service and retail businesses sell services and items are a combination of individual items & that we currently have to select manually when selling them.
In my business (body piercing) we use 2-6 individual items for all services and that I currently do not track via the inventory abilities that I currently pay extra for. I also know that salons would prefer automated inventory reduction of color or chemicals or other consumables involved in daily business. This is currently something we have to do MANUALLY. And it comes with many errors by the end of the year. And it is very difficult to determine COGs, and perform cost projections, when most of the inventory cannot be tracked automatically.
Years ago I used MYOB Accounting software and I could customize the inventory items used in services as a standard part of the software, so I KNOW this is a possibility. And the time saved for us busy-busy owners and managers would definitely help us work smarter and not MANUALLY.
