Ability to delete locations

Ability to delete locations

I made a mistake and added an extra location. I do not want it in my drop down selection boxes. I want to remove the extra location not just deactive it! I want it gone!

To be able to permanently delete a location

hi,

As a new user of Square I try out new features, I accidentally added a location because my first location had issues linking to google. It's frustrating to not be able to delete the location when I entered it as a sample location. I also don't have a physical location for my business so I don't want extra locations there because it creates confusion for bookkeeping purposes. There should be a feature to completely just delete the location. I know there is an inactive feature but I don't want to see the location there.

I have same issue with invoices too as I created a wrong invoice which was sent then cancelled and is unable to delete which again affects my financial statements.

Square should be more flexible and allow users to learn and make mistakes and then delete it.

Re: How do I delete a location?

I am frustrated with the location option. I am the owner and some how I am listed as the location. Now I cannot see my inventory or update my inventory. I am afraid to deactivate location for myself because I am concerned I may lose everything. All I want to do is see my inventory and update it.

Sorry to see you go @springbankrise. We understand that people need to do what's best for them and their businesses. Best of luck to you.

After reading the first reply to this post back in 2016 I really hoped that Square cared enough about its customer to fix this issue.  Simply making a location disabled doesn't stop it from showing up all over the interface.  Especially when one of the disabled locations is at the top of the list.  Remembering to change locations every time I try and do something in Square is a huge time sink.  And if I happen to forget I have the privilege of retracing my steps to see where I didn't make the change.
4 years is a long time to gather customer input and make a decision one way or that other.
How about adding a pop up message "Once created a location can never be deleted."  Be honest and upfront about what is going to happen.

Off topic - might want to add a warning that you can never change the name of the account opener.  Even if a legal name change has happened.
How about an honest answer?

@TheBenchBoise thank you for sharing. I can hear your frustration and I do understand that waiting 4 years for a feature request is a long time. I think a pop up is a great idea and I will share this with the team. In regards to actually deleting a location, this is something sellers are looking for, but is a difficult feature for us to tackle as it involves potentially deleting transaction information, which is not something we can ever do.

Keeping this in mind, I do understand how a pop up would be beneficial and help sellers make better judgments regarding their accounts.

Thanks again for sharing.

I don't think I've read a single comment here from someone who wants to delete any financial records or anything like that. They just want the unused or false locations to not interfere with the operations of the real locations.

Edit: I had an issue with the online store forcing my customers to pick a location when there is only one. This problem cropped up recently and wasn't an issue before so I don't why it started happening. I'm also not sure why it stopped.

Hey @Rp3- when you say you're not sure why it stopped, do you mean that it went back to where your customers aren't forced to pick a location? Or are you still running into this problem?

My customers are no longer forced to pick a location and my "dummy" location is no longer showing up in my online store. I wish I could give you some insight but I don't know what changed. I had been trying to figure it out for awhile to no avail and suddenly it was solved. The closest thing I can think of that might have done it was in the website editor, I turned off the location information on the order page, published and then turned it back on and published again. Some time after that the problem was fixed but I can't be sure that is what did it and it seems a little odd that it would but give it a shot, I'd be curious to know.

Come on now, 5 years?????

Hey guys, I cant seem to find a way to delete a location that I made while testing out new functions. Now every time I try to do something, I'm prompted by having to choose which location I am referring too. So i did some research to find a thread dated 2015 asking the same question, and hundreds of concurrences on the issue. Now Im partially frustrated.

Square has such a beautiful and user friendly UI and i hate that something like this has the ability to reach to every corner of the system to nag at me. Payment accounts, addresses, CC statement names, etc etc. I found those in about 4 minutes. Not to mention the selection is required to join this support forum.

Please Square, the DEACTIVATE function is insufficient. I understand a customer support representative mentioned something about the legality of it and preserving financial records or something. Cant the data be exported to archive? What if the new location has been open for 5 minutes and literally has no data? What, then, is there to preserve?

To add to my frustration (that thread I mentioned in the first paragraph), clients and customers (your customers) have been complaining almost monthly for nearly 5 years, and nothing has even been addressed!

Please square take this a little more seriously if possible. This and probably some other customers are looking for what is the best system/terminal out there. To me, that is Square. I understand minor flaws but straight up ignoring customers is what I dislike.

As a loyal customer, i will remain with Square, certainly, but just wanted to express my concerns, and hopefully find a solution if one has come to.

Thank you

And you still have to select a location to leave a comment, to remind you how annoying it is.

We have another issue to add to the pile of not being able to delete a location. We recently had a phone app made through a 3rd party called PoppinPay. They pull data from Square and integrate directly with our POS. Because we cannot delete locations through Square, old locations we made in error are still on the backend of the app when we try to manage settings on our PoppinPay Dashboard.
