Hi, my name is Dina and I'm 50 years old and use TikTok like a kid... seriously. I love it.
But I have a story time for you.
Last week my business partner (also best friend & birthday twin) went to Scotland (Edinburgh) and Ireland (all over the place- LOL) together for our 50th birthdays.
I did the Scotland planning and she (having dual citizenship and family in Ireland) handled that leg.
Obviously it was a big trip and we talked about it a lot. And... you know what happens when you talk about something a lot around your phone- it starts to serve you content around that thing (and also- to be fair- I also did search Edinburgh as well).
Well- if you aren't on travel TikTok- let me tell ya- wow.
We found out about so many spots and tricks just because of TikTok. Businesses that we would NEVER have found or known about.
In Edinburgh we did something called the Islander Workshop. You make a reservation for a design a handbag experience from leather and Scottish Tweed/Tartan. Something I'd never have known about.
In Galway we found a former government official who now owns a jewelry shop selling Claddagh Rings (which originate in Galway). Was he the original shop? No. Did I pick him because his TikTok's are NEXT LEVEL HYSTERICAL and we wanted to support him? yes!
He told us TikTok has next leveled his business.. that he's shipping to Japan daily as it's trending over there.. it's just amazing.
So- the point is- it's easy to see social- especially TikTok as a waste of time. That sometimes we plant seeds and we don't know which ones will take off... but I do think ultimately this is the future. This is how the "cool kids" are finding out about places to go... I dare say, even google search is really starting to wane (I rarely google anymore).
If you're looking for inspiration- well- this is it 🙂 especially if you're in a tourist area!!
I've never took the time to actually get into TikTok...I have an account, but never really do anything with it.
I think a lot of people are like that- it's super intimidating... I tell people to check out TikTok and train your algorithm so that way you can get an idea of the culture before you start posting
I think TokTik will be the one that makes me crack socials, if I can find the time to pull my finger out. Its been cool the few times people have gone "oh this place is on TokTik".
I don't really trust food reviews, I have been let down a lot
