Is there a way to turn off the ipad without removing it from the stand?

We have many individuals using the equipment in a small non-for-profit gift shop. I do not know how to turn off the ipad without removing it from the stand. I am afraid it will get damaged doing so. If we leave it in the stand  the power goes off at night and the ipad runs out of battery. It takes at least 15 minutes to recharge enough for use the next time the shop opens so early customers cannot use credit cards if we leave it on the stand. Is there a software solution? We are new to ipad-Square use.

An idle iPad should not die overnight if power goes out.  If that happens I would have your iPad checked or see if there are other programs running in the background.   (Settings icon / General / Background app Refresh / Turn of anything that doesn't need to be running in the background.

To shut the iPad off go to the Settings Icon / General / scroll to the bottom to "Shut Down"

To Turn it back on apply power to it or unplug and plug back in with kick it back on.

As @RHatch said, your iPad should last for several days without power if it's not being used.  If it dies, it's either a problem with the iPad or the stand (I had one Square Stand that would drain the battery even when not in use for some reason).

On turning it off without removing it, you're kinda out of luck.  It's easy to turn it off while in the stand, but you may need to remove it to turn it back on.

To solve this, I drilled a hole in my Square Stand right where the power button sits so that I can hit the power button with a paper clip.
