My understanding is that the Venmo Debit card is a Master Card and their Credit card is Visa, so they should work like any card. However, I've had multiple store managers tell me that those cards specifically are constantly declined. Any reason for this?

declining happens on the Card issuing bank side, Square doesn't decide. It could be that company has more strict fraud checking on their cards. I would suggest the customer try calling the card-issuing bank to see if there is a reason it was declined.
