Feature Request: Add Virtual Stamp Cards to Square Loyalty

I’d love to suggest adding virtual stamp cards as an option within Square Loyalty, alongside the current points-based system.

Stamp cards traditionally work best for service-based businesses (beauty, wellness, personal services), while point-based loyalty is better suited for retail. Paper stamp cards were effective but often lost, so a digital version inside Square would keep everything streamlined and in one ecosystem.

Why this helps service businesses:

  • Services are rewarded by visit count, not spend (e.g., “Buy 5 services, get 1 free”)
  • Clear milestones with no point conversions
  • Less manual work and less client confusion

Suggested functionality:

  • Option to choose Points-Based or Stamp-Based (Milestone) loyalty
  • 1 virtual stamp per completed appointment
  • Rewards unlock at set visit milestones without resetting progress
  • Fully compatible with deposit-required appointments (stamp added once entire transaction is completed
  • Rewards can be redeemed at checkout even when a deposit was taken—no custom coupons or manual notes
  • A new blank card is started once filled

UX ideas:

  • Apple & Android tap-in support (Apple Wallet / Google Pay)
  • Optional QR or tap-to-check-in
  • Visual progress card for clients
  • Notifications when clients are close to a reward
  • Clear stamp history in the client profile

This would eliminate common loyalty workarounds for service-based sellers while allowing Square’s current points system to continue working well for retail. I love Square and want to keep my entire business fully within the ecosystem—this addition would make Square Loyalty far more flexible and service-friendly.

Unfortunately square is very limited with the what you can do with the current loyalty card. It's simply not possible to modify google / apple wallet in a way to achieve a stamp card.

@SuperDuper Anything is possible!! Just kidding, that's disappointing! Maybe they'll consider my other feature request to add a milestone structured loyalty option. It wouldn't be too different from the current system they have they'd just have to pretty much eliminate point resets to make it more suitable for service based business which reward you based on 'the more you book' kind of basis vs the points system that better suits retail business.

@Vanilla

I’m not using Square Loyalty at the moment. I played around with the idea, but I just couldn't justify the monthly fee for what it offers. I actually still stick to traditional punch cards—they’re simple and they work.

That said, if you're looking specifically for visit-based loyalty, Square does have that functionality. (Check out the screenshot I attached.) It lets you assign points for every visit, and then you can set exactly how many points a customer needs to hit on the redemption screen to get their reward.

Is that the specific setup you were looking for?

@mitin The issue is that when a reward is redeemed, the client’s points reset to zero. For service-based businesses, loyalty is typically visit-based and cumulative. For example, with brow or waxing services, a client might receive 50% off their 5th visit and a free service on their 10th visit. Square’s system requires clients to “cash in” points and start over, rather than allowing progress to continue.

Additionally, Square does not track or apply rewards when deposits are required—which I use for all bookings. The current workaround is manually adding points and creating custom coupon codes to apply at checkout. As a solo business owner with over 500 clients, this process is extremely time-consuming and not scalable.

@Vanilla Are you stuck on square for loyalty? or have you thought of other options that are not specifically square related?

@SuperDuper I've had other ones, I just thought having it on square would make it seamless since that's where I take appointments and process all payments. The goal was no manual labor. Might just go back to punch cards.
