Enable Loyalty Point Expiry Settings for Australian Merchants

We request that Square enable the Loyalty Point Expiration setting for Australian merchants under Customers > Loyalty > Settings > Earning Points.

Currently, the Expiry dropdown menu (which allows sellers to select 3, 6, 12 months, or Never) is present in US accounts but omitted entirely from the Australian Dashboard UI.

Why This Is Critical for Australian Businesses

  • Eliminates Balance Sheet Liabilities: Without an expiration policy, unredeemed points accumulate indefinitely. For seasonal, tourist, and regional businesses, old points create a permanent accounting liability on our books.

  • Encourages Repeat Visits: Setting a 3-month or 6-month expiry creates urgency, encouraging customers to return and redeem their rewards sooner.

  • Fully Compliant with Australian Consumer Law (ACL): While ACL mandates a 3-year minimum for prepaid Gift Cards, earned Loyalty Points are explicitly exempt from these regulations. Point expiration is 100% legal in Australia provided clear notice is given.

The Request

Please bring feature parity to the Australian platform by making the standard Expiry setting available in the AU Dashboard so merchants can manage their loyalty liabilities effectively.

If you run a business in Australia and need point expiration to protect your margins, please UPVOTE / KUDOS this idea and comment below with your business type!

I support this idea, it makes total sense to be able to set an expiry limit if the regional laws on selling permits this.
