Create physical scannable loyalty cards to boost brand & customer engagement.

I own a spa and have membership tiers as well as square loyalty & I’d like to give my clients a scannable physical card to boost my brand and client engagement. Clients feel apart of something big when you give them a physical item. I’d like for it to be scanned when they enter to show their loyalty points & membership details (I have via Wix).

Physical loyalty member cards would help so much.  As an independent garden center, we provide a discount to local landscapers who consistently shop with us.  It would be so nice if we could provide the landscapers (who are in a subgroup of our customer catalog) with physical, scannable cards to show when they visit, giving them seamless access to their discount at checkout.

It does seem a simple fix, to add in a scannable part on a card, even if us users did the card ourselves.

For us, the third party apps don't quite fit (mainly, they can't offer either loyalty or discounts based on category, which is crucial for us, as we cant give the same amount of reward to items we make 10% on, to items we make 70% on (from a COGS point of view)

@Shaestheticsss the "clients feel a part of something big when you give them a physical item" line is exactly right. We ran the same experiment at my salon in Miami and clients actually kept the cards. It changed how they talked about us.

The catch is printing, reprinting when they lose them, and the fact that Square still won’t scan a barcode into a discount. @ChickenRacer and @Ed_OBrien have been circling this for months.

One workaround that has held up for us: Apple and Google Wallet passes. Same brand real estate, no plastic, they update live, and clients can’t lose them. I built wallet passes into ViralRef because I needed them for referrals, but the same plumbing works for any card-shaped loyalty concept.

Different from Square Loyalty points, and not a full physical-card replacement, but it covers most of the "part of something big" feeling without a printer. Beta is 3 months free if anyone wants to test the wallet side.
