Why not just use an open-source third-party barcode scanner and integrate them to square? It will not time-consuming or costly to build, but you will gain more user by having this feature. Camera compatibility was never an issue. Most POS out there already done this a long time ago, and it's a standard feature. I'm little confused why Square which more advanced than most POS does not have it. Except you guys have another reason which better than @Chad I think you should go check some competitors. Cheers 🙂
This is all I want. Really. I hate not having a bar code reader to find my products. It's the driving force on my debate to leave square. Its a qr reader. So Here...heres the Google API for the ML kit
Go to play store download: barcode/NFC Scanner app. Allow keyboard replaced with new. Allow camera use. Tap in where you type square app keyboard will pop up tap barcode bottom scan that's it
Yeah, its not that trickey to intigrate a barcode scanner into the camera of a mobile device. I use Woocommerce and WooSquare to integrate my online and Square POS. I had a friend create an iOS app (the app is called Skoo) that scans barcodes and allows me to update inventory on my website. Which inturn gets synced with Square via the WooSquare pluggin. Its not perfect but it general works. It took my friend about 2 weeks to create the app. Works great with Woocommerce. The weak point is the WooSquare intigration between Woocommerce and Square. That pluggin needs some work for sure.
As far as the barcode scanning beeing built into the apps ... Square, stop making it sound way more difficult than it really is.
I do not understand why square does not offer this. And like others have said, it has been 2 years now that people are asking for this and it is STILL not offered, yet PayPal does offer this. With the expansion of my business, I am not considering going back to PayPal, even though I like the ease of Square just automatically transfering the money and not having to do it manually.
I am looking for a good app to track my inventory and do POS, I thought I found it with Square but u do not support barcodes or QR codes with phone camera for checkout or inventory management so I will keep looking.
So true. This would be a vital feature for us if it was offered. I have used many apps that have this feature. I feel Square is holding off on adding the feature because of their partnership with their mobile scanner company. Otherwise, some progress woild have been made between 2016 and now....
The tech has been available for years. Your customers have been asking for years. Your competitors are offering it. When will Square, a great POS platform, include a barcode reader in the mobile app?
