include all sub-category items in parent category

when adding sub-categories to a parent categories they should automatically be added to the parent category. This would also help with the problem of not being able to import an item into multiple categories. If the parent category is "widgets" and the sub-categories are "blue" and "red" with 2 each then the parent category should show 4 items. Currently if you are searching "widgets" nothing comes up unless you select a sub-category OR assign the items to both "blue" and "widgets" which has to be done manually since there is no way to import to multiple categories. This is already standard in the feature of item variations. The top line shows the total of all the variations for that item. A parent category should have the same relationship to it's sub-categories as variations do to a single item.

Agreed.  There is also a new glitch with catagories in the online item entry.  You can no longer add an item to a catagory, or more specifically multiple catagores, within item entry.  It now directs you to the main catagory page.  Which is EXTREMLY inconvenient    and doubles the time and effort of adding each and every item.  Please fix ASAP.

I don't know why it doesn't do this already. This is the way it should work. This would be very helpful.

Yes, this is something I have asked for multiple times as well. 

They should not be called category, sub-category if reporting is not going to treat them as so.
