Square Champion

Apply discounts to customer profiles (for use on future purchases)

We offer referral discounts (set up in Square) and would love the ability to apply these discounts directly to a customer’s profile for a future visit.

Currently, there’s no way to tag or store a discount for later use unless they have a service booked, which means we have to rely on manual notes or memory.

This creates a risk of forgetting to apply the discount when the customer returns, which can lead to awkward conversations and a poor experience.

Suggested improvements

  • Add an option to apply a discount to a customer profile for future transactions
  • Display any pending discounts clearly in the POS and Appointments flow
  • Allow sellers to set an expiry date or usage limit for these profile-linked discounts
  • Include visibility for staff so they know a discount is waiting to be applied

@tomven this is the exact pain that pushed me to build outside Square. Discounts that only exist in a note field or in staff memory are the fastest way to lose the referred customer's trust when they show up expecting the reward.

Your four asks (profile-level storage, POS visibility, expiry, staff surfacing) are all correct. On the referral piece specifically, I built ViralRef because I needed exactly this for my salon in Miami. Each customer gets a unique link, referred purchases through Square trigger a stored reward on both profiles, and the POS surfaces the pending reward at checkout with an expiry we set. It doesn't cover every discount category you're describing, only the referral flow, but it's the closest thing I've seen shipping today.
