Ability to take deposits on pos machine.

I have people wanting to place deposits for their Christmas and holiday orders. While some are able to pay in full when they place their order. Some would like to place a deposit, to pay the remaining amount at pick up. I can’t find a way to do this. I saw online i could do a version of this through appointments or invoices. But many of my customers use cash or don’t have an email. I would rather have an option be available through the tickets/ orders section of the POS

You are correct, an Invoice is the way to go, and you can create one on the POS within the More options.  Create the customer and add the line items.  You can then accept the customer’s $50 in cash, record it against their $200 Square invoice, and leave $150 outstanding. Square’s current U.S. documentation supports recording cash invoice payments; the most clearly documented route is through Square Dashboard.squareup

How to record it

1. Create the $200 itemized invoice, ideally with a $50 deposit and the remaining balance due at pickup.

2. Accept the $50 cash from the customer.

3. In Square Dashboard, go to Orders & payments → Invoices. Your menu may instead say Invoices & Payments or Payments.

4. Open the invoice and select Take a payment. Square also lists More → Mark as paid as an entry point.

5. Confirm that the payment amount is $50—not the full $200—and select Cash as the payment method.

6. Add an optional note, such as “Cash deposit received in person,” and confirm the payment
