Is there a way to NOT allow discounts on specific items?

Is there a way to NOT allow discounts on specific items?

I give my staff a discount on products but I do not want to allow a discount on travel size items.  Is there a way to mark them so they can not be discounted?

Re: How do I restrict all discounts on purchases of alcohol?

It sounds like you would like the ability to restrict specific items from discounts, @burrito 🌯
While this is not currently possible, you are able to select the categories and items that discounts apply to.

  1. I would first recommend creating a category from your Dashboard to house all of your alcoholic beverages in.

  2. Next, you'll create or edit a discount via your Discounts page.
While here, toggle ON the Discount rules option in the Automatic discount section:

  3. You'll want to select the Item or category option in the pop-up that appears here:

  4. Next, you can select all categories that you would like the discount to apply to.
Be sure not to select the category you created for your alcoholic beverages!

Please let us know if this isn't quite what you were looking to do, and we can dig in a bit more

Hi @salon208 — welcome to the seller community! ✌🏻

Thanks for surfacing this. Currently, we don't offer the option to restrict discounts on specific items, though I can see how this feature would be helpful for many businesses like yours.

I'll be sharing your suggestion with our Product Liaison team, who is constantly working to improve our products based on seller feedback. We'll certainly circle back with any other developments that may be useful.

Please keep in touch for updates and if you have any other questions, let us know!

@Sam1133 Can you tell me a ittle more about the type of discount you're running?

Does everyone buying a qualifying item get the discount, for example?

@stouts I was revisiting this thread and have a follow up question regarding discounts - can you tell me more about the type of discount you're running?

Thanks!

I need to be able to offer a discount on an event ticket purchase, but not a membership renewal in the online store.

Are there any updates on the ability to toggle on/off discounts for different items and/or categories?  We give our employees a 40% discount for purchases made in our restaurant, but if they are able to do so when our new market area opens, it will be a disaster.  I know I could limit the ability to apply a discount to certain employees (i.e., manager), but I would really, really like the ability to restrict the discount to certain items/categories, as it seems many other users would.  Please add us to a beta testing program if there is one.  Thanks!

I'll add you to my beta list @thepickledpeach!

Any update on this?  This is obviously somethign that needs addressed for many.

Hello @kasmiller, welcome to the Seller Community!

If you are using Employee Management you can require an employee PIN for certain discounts. This is how you can keep employees from applying a discount currently.

If you're looking for restricting discounts on specific items I recommend checking out @elanie_p's updates on this thread! 😀

Where is this now - people have wanted it for at least two years. When entering items, we can make them non-taxable by just turning off the tax. Why can't the same programming work for being able to do the identical thing with discounts? I know the discount probably comes from a different place, since it is not resident in the item itself, but while the months and years roll by, we're losing money due to errors. We run on volunteers and they are trained, but often in the heat of the moment, errors are easily made.

Hi @jglaze - We don't have a timeline available, but it looks like @elaine_p might have an opportunity to demo a beta later. We'll update this thread as we learn more info, so thanks for your patience.
