Feature Request: Pause orders via my Square Online website using the Square Point of Sale app

The title of this post has been edited from the original: I'm getting orders in my online store after changing hours to closed.

I often have to temporarily close my food cart or change hours.  For now, I am doing this through: Settings > Pickup & Delivery > Hours.   However, I am still receiving orders after changing my hours to "closed" (my poor customers are actually coming to visit my cart and finding out that the cart is closed.  Which does not look good on us at all.....)

Is there a better way to change hours for the day?

Temporary closure function would be very helpful.

Re: Can you please add a toggle to pause online orders from the dashboard?

Hi there, @greenecanteen - so sorry for the confusion here. I am referring to the Online Dashboard. Here are the direct steps:

1. Log into the Square Dashboard

2. Go to Online Store (this took me to weebly)

3. Click "Settings", then "Checkout".

4. Toggle switch at top of that page that says "Accept online orders"

I hope this helps!

It is really simple, you just go to the web design page, and at the header tab, click to turn off showing basket, by doing that, customers could not add items and check out on your side until you turn it on back. In the mean time, customers still can see your menu and everything.Screen Shot 2020-07-21 at 2.06.49 PM.pngScreen Shot 2020-07-21 at 2.06.41 PM.pngScreen Shot 2020-07-21 at 2.06.14 PM.png

Settings > Checkout > Accept online orders > toggle off is the fix here.

Thank you! Toggle actually works.

I have toggled the store off and customers have still been able to get orders through the system while we are closed. I have set the hours for our shop but Square Online Store does not shut off when we are not open. It only prevents orders when I toggle the "accept online orders" switch to off. I have also had it toggle itself back on without my doing so and orders have gotten through, but tonight is the first time it has been off and an order was able to come through the online system. This really sucks because I have people coming to our business expecting to pick up an order and we are closed! Any other toggles I should be looking into? Otherwise, I'll just have to unpublish the site each day and republish in the mornings and then people can't view the menu at all since we've moved to having our menu totally on the Square Online Store platform.

Nobody in support is getting it! greencanteen has a very valid point and I totally agree. There needs to be a way employees can toggle online store on/off at the pos!!! Why is that so difficult?

But if your employees can't do that from Square pos, then you, the manager, gets a frantic call-"please turn off online store! there's a line of people out the door". And now, manager needs to find a place to get off the road, or get to his laptop wherever that is, and do the honors! There's got to be a better way! I am quarantined currently and the cafe is busy. So, I get these calls almost daily.

It looks like this response took place back in June. This is August! Where are we on this sublect? This is a desperate need!

Yes this problem impacted us yesterday too. We had to close early and it was a nightmare to turn off online ordering. Yet with Grubhub it gives you the option to "turn off orders for a specified period of time" or "to turn off orders just for the day". Not sure why this is not an option. 😞

Hi @hscva I've merged your post with an existing thread that will help answer your question. Right now, if a customer has items in their cart before your ordering window/business hours close, then they can still place an order outside of your set parameters.

It looks like @PreOrder_Apps also had some suggestions that may be beneficial to you as a workaround for now.

Let me know if you have any other questions. 🙂

That's an easy fix, wish it would work by independently on each page.

I would like to keep a list of some of our items on our website with prices, but NOT allow them to order the items online at any time. Really just informational, and as the price is being pulled from the item setup, I wouldn't have to manually change the prices if I set it up a different way.  Specifically, I have butcher items that change based on market price, but must be sold by weight in my state, and the weight of the item is not known until after the order is placed and the item is prepared, not an easy thing to do online.

Anyone have any kind of work around for showing item prices, but not allowing customer to order it ?
