Feature Request: A report that displays the ZIP codes associated with payments

The title of this post has been edited from the original: Having a sales report that shows location of transactions

Is it possible in the sales reports to breakdown the sales by location (preferably zip code) if all transactions are done on the same account?

Most of our transactions take place at our one store, but sometimes we have transactions done on mobile devices that take place in other cities at farmers markets that we do. In order to calculate sales taxes, which vary by city and county, I would like to be able to see how much of the total monthly sales were done in which locations.

As a travelling tennis coach with 3 locations and one employee at one of those locations I too would like a break down by zip code as well as by employee... Is this possible? I'm new to square and struggling a little!

I need this information too.   If I open a receipt in Square, it shows the location as our main office instead of where the transaction took place.   I know the receipt is from a farmers market, but it still shows it as our main office.   How can I change this?

turn on the GPS locator on your device

@Ingrainedbakery - If you're making payments in different areas, I'd suggest creating a location for each site. When set up, you can see sales based on the location that each device was signed into.

@SphericalYellow - You could create an employee account for each of your staff members. Our reporting also lets you break down sales my employee.

lanne456 - The receipt map should reflect where the payment was taken. Just like

@barb1 suggested, I'd double check location settings on your device. This article offers a little guidance. 👍

My understanding is that the Register app won't even function if Location Settings are not enabled for it, which makes this issue all the more puzzling.  In my case, Location Settings are enabled, but I still cannot see the actual location of a transaction.  This was a very handy feature for us when it last worked a couple years ago.

UPDATE:

According to Square Support, this feature was removed for privacy reasons.  I'm not sure how the location where two people happened to physically conduct a business transaction could be more sensitive than information that remains available, such as the customer's name, but I suppose everyone has their reasons.

I am looking for a way to find out what percentage of my sales comes from outside my local zip codes. Any ideas?

Hi @AuntPam — welcome and thanks for bringing this up!

The ability to run a report for sales based on zip code is not available at this time. Out of curiosity, can you share a bit more information on why this visibility would be useful for your business? I'd like to share more details with our Product Liaison team.

I would like to see this added too. As a transient vendor, working various events across the country, and having to track and file sales tax in every state, not to mention tracking sales tax per-county for events in my home state of Ohio, having a way to sort my Square trnasaction reports using the ZIP code of where I was processing a transaction would be extremely helpful.

Hi @georgec, thanks for sharing. Having to file sales tax in multiple states and counties does sound complicated. Depending on the number of events and states/counties where you make sales, Sean's location suggestion might serve as a workaround as each location would display in your Transactions CSV.

If you have a lot of ground to cover and the location suggestion isn't feasible—I'd suggest having a look at the App MarketplaceAccounting & Tax for more information on services we've partnered with. Hopefully there is a suitable tracking solution for you there.

I already looked a the multiple location suggestion. It's not ideal. Some events suck and I do not return. I see there is a 75 location limit as well. And they can't be deleted. Regardless, I do not want to manage dozens of locations just to get the local ZIP code or coordinartes when I ring up a sale.

Not sure why this metadata can't be added in. Location coordinates are on every photo I take with the phone. Have to imagine you guys can capture this for the transactions.

The app itself has a feature to determine location in order to set local sales taxes for you, so you guys are obviously able to access this data. This never actually succeeds when I try it, so I have no idea if it affects the .csv entries.

But the fact that the app is capturing the data means it can be stored in the .csv. Seems like a no-brainer for a mobile payment device.
