Assign Multiple Custom Shipping Profiles to Items for International and Domestic Orders

Assign Multiple Custom Shipping Profiles to Items for International and Domestic Orders

Hi, I'm trying to set up a custom profile for an item for domestic and international shipping. It seems I can set up a custom rate for domestic or international but not for both, which defeats the purpose somewhat.

If it's not possible to do both, what happens to shipping on the item if I just set up a custom profile domestically? Does it revert to the default international rate for international customers or does it just say shipping isn't possible?

Re: Assign Multiple Custom Shipping Profiles to Items for International and Domestic Orders

I completely understand your frustration, @Plantsylancey. As soon as more information is available, we'll be sure to update this thread.

In the meantime, I recommend trying the workaround mentioned by Arie above:

1. Create a Default Shipping Profile for each state.
2. Add Shipping Rates Based on Order Weight.

  • Note: Default Profiles include all items available for shipping that don’t belong to a custom shipping profile (more on this below). New items are included automatically.

Keep in mind that any items without a specified weight will fall into the lowest shipping rate category. For example:

  • 0 kg - 4.9 kg = $10
  • 5 kg - 7.9 kg = $15
  • 8 kg - 10 kg = $20

If an item doesn't have a weight listed, it would default to a $10 shipping fee in this example.

Additionally, you could set up a Custom Shipping Profile after your default profiles for all items that don't require weight-based shipping calculations, and add a flat rate to ensure these items are covered. While I can appreciate that this will require a more manual approach, it has the potential to help you achieve the outcome you're looking for.

Please see the screenshot below for how this would set up would look on the Shipping Profiles page:

I hope this helps. If you have more questions, please let me know. 😊

Hi @kudelkashop,

Thanks for writing back into the community 🙂

You can set up multiple shipping rates - so when a customer purchases a product domestically, they'd be charged the local shipping rate, and if they're ordering from overseas, your international shipping rate would be applied. While we're not able to look into how you've set up your shipping rates in Square Online, this would be something our support team can take a closer look at with you as well. Reach out on 1800 760 137 (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm Melbourne time), or via online chat or email:

1. Sign in to your Square account

2. Head to our contact page https://squareup.com/help/au/en/contact

3. Go to "Other"" then "I don't see my issue"

4. Click "Message us" or "Email us"

Please let us know how you go!

Hi, that seems to be for the default profiles? For special profiles you can only seem to apply it to one product.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, @kudelkashop! Just to clarify, are you wanting to create two custom shipping rates for an item?

Hi Arie, yes, I contacted support and seem that it can’t be done. This could possibly be something worth looking into. If you need a custom shipping profile domestically, you’re probably going to need it internationally as well, but obviously at a different rate. I’ve just set mine to a special rate domestically  and let it use the default international rate otherwise but it’s not ideal.

I see, @kudelkashop! I'll pass this feedback on to our eCom team, as I can definitely see how multiple rates would be required for the same item in some circumstances.

I am also having this issue, I need to create multiple shipping rates for one item, local and international, with and without tracking. If I add the items to a custom group it removes it from all the others. So I can only set one rate. This is unfeasible to run like this.

Hey there, @kultofkulta,

Thanks for reaching out to add your vote for this feature request. I've gone ahead and moved this thread to our Feature Requests board for Square Online.

Our Product Team is constantly reviewing these boards for feedback like this to improve our products. I'll ensure this feedback is directly passed on to this team.

Add my vote for this too please. I've had a Weebly Pro website for 12 years just as an art portfolio and now I'm new to Square and have just set up my shop in the free version to test it out. I've just discovered I can't add local and international shipping rates to items. Which means I can't sell internationally. Getting the shipping right and different prices for different countries is crucial. Square team, please change this so we can add multiple shipping rates otherwise I'll have to check out other website providers.

I've noted your feedback too, @LeA10, and have passed this on to our Product Team.

Should we have further updates to share here in future, we'll be sure to tag everyone and comment in this thread!

It seems this has been an issue for quite a while after finding other posts about it in the seller community.  All the time I've spent setting up my online shop will be wasted if I just have to set up another one with a different provider. Wish I'd known about this issue before I started.

Can you find out a timeframe that this will be dealt with?
