coupons - exclude categories but base on dollar purchased

I need to create a coupon for the online shop that gives people a tiered discount based on what they spend but I have a category that need to be excluded from the total.

I offer physical items and classes - classes are never discounted,

I am offering a promotion in store that gives a person 10% off when they spend up to $50, 15% when they spend up to $75 and so on.

Is there anyway to set this up online as well.

Also when trying to set it up as automatic in the dashboard - I wanted to select all categories and then deselect the few that it cannot apply to.  There is no way to select all categories - that seems kind of silly.  I can select all items but it would take me forever to deselect all the items it does not apply to.

Thanks for any help

@snowygrey Hopefully I am understanding your questions here.  Let me know if I missed something, or if my answers aren’t completely clear.

First, as far as I know, online store coupons do not have a way for you to set minimum purchase amounts.  You can give customers coupon codes and tell them that they need to spend a minimum amount to use them, but it would something you’d have to monitor.  Ugh.  Sounds like a feature request for Square to add a “minimum purchase amount required” in Discount Details, which would cause them to reject the code if that amount wasn’t met.  Feature requests can be made here — https://www.sellercommunity.com/t5/Feature-Requests/ct-p/Beta-Feature-Requests

For your second question, I think you are referring to the regular discounts for your POS, NOT for the online store.  Actually, there is a way to select just the categories you want to auto-apply to any discount.

  1. Go into the discount.
  2. Go to the Automatic Discount section and toggle it on.
  3. Select Item or category and click Done
  4. Click on “Add eligible items or categories.
  5. Above the list of items is a line that says “> Categories.”  Click the blue “>”. This will open up a drop down list of all of your categories.
  6. Select the categories the discount applies to, then click Done.
  7. Finish setting up any other discount parameters and conditions and save it.  That should do what you want, for the POS discounts at least.

Best wishes,
