New Loyalty Feature Needed!

Anybody else have this same issue with Square Loyalty? I need to be able to assign different "rewards earned" for different item categories. In my line of business, our customers should only earn 1% back on certain items which account for 25% of our sales. But I'd like to offer 5% back on the other 75% of our sales (where our margins are higher, and the manufacturer doesn't restrict rewards, etc).

Right now, there's no way to have different levels of points earned. It's been quite problematic for us, and seems like an easy addition on Square's end. Is there anyone else out there having the same problem?

You can absolutely do it by Category! The reason I suggested by Item is that different items in the same category might be priced at different price points, so in order to get the right effective % off, you might want to set up your Point Values based on item, but you can totally do Category! We do categories and it works great!

Hey there @ReefCollective

You're correct, Square Loyalty doesn't have the options to do multiple levels of rewards points. Thank you for reaching out with this feedback, it's extremely helpful to our Product Team to help continually develop our platforms. I can see the large benefit it would have for you and other sellers with a similar business system.

I will go ahead and tag this as a Feature Request for our Product Team. Be on the lookout for our Product Updates for upcoming launches.

Thanks @Kassi_ ! I do think this would a tremendous feature to offer. It would certainly help businesses fine tune their loyalty programs, and potentially have an impact on their profits. Every dollar counts!

@ReefCollective Well you can assign different numbers of points earned for different Categories or Items themselves.

While your rewards will be the same number of Points Redeemed, you can adjust the percentage off by adjusting the number of points earned.

For a super basic example, if your reward is 100 Points = $100 off your next purchase, each point = $1

On an item that you want 1% off, you make it earn 1 point on an item that costs $100 - or 2 points if it costs $200, etc.

On an item that you want 5% off, you make it earn 5 points on an item that costs $100 - or 10 points if it costs $200, etc.

This is an oversimplification that you can play with depending on what you want your reward to be, and what your item costs are - but it's definitely doable by keeping the same reward and changing the number of points earned per category.

Hope this helps and opens up the door to marvelous loyalty possibilities!

I'd love to hear what your plan is, and I can totally help when I know more specifics of what your prices & rewards & all that actually are!

@pessosices thank you, did not realize I could do that! However, I'd like to be able to do this by CATEGORY. We have thousands of items (25% needing 1% rewards, 75% needing 5% rewards). If I have to do each individual item, it may take a couple of days...

@pessosices either I'm an idiot, or it's still not going to work as I imagine:

1 Point Earn 1 Point for any item in Dry Goods - MAP purchased.
5 Points Earn 5 Points for any item in Fish purchased.

My problem is, it's a fixed point amount per item and not a percentage. We need to offer 1% on "Dry Goods - MAP" and 5% on "Fish." Versus the "1 point per dollar spent" option I've been using.

If a variable "point per dollar spent" was allowed for different categories, my problem would be solved. Correct?? Ugh, this is driving me crazy.

Correct, that’s why I suggested offering different point amounts for different items depending on their price, rather than by category.

Another option is to go back to points by $ amount spent, and to sort of split the difference:

Figure out how much money in sales you make in each category, and offer your rewards to be per $ spent, and make your structure between 1-5% accordingly across the board.

So if fish sales are 75 percent of your sales and dry goods are 25% of your sales, offer 4% off as a reward so the 3% money you “lose” from a discount on dry goods is made up for by the 1% month you “save” from the discount on fish.

@pessosices I appreciate all of the help! But sadly this won't work. I need it to be a variable percentage per category. The item approach only allows points per item independent of price. And splitting the difference is a great idea! But I'm neurotic about accounting/numbers...this would always seem off to me. Plus, it would inadvertently short change customers who buy almost exclusively from what should be the 5% categories (fish, etc), and provide extra rewards for the customers who buy almost exclusively from the 1% categories (high-end equipment, etc). I'm probably splitting hairs, but this is too important to me (and the business) for this not to be right! Hopefully Square can develop a solution. It seems easy to me, but I could be wrong - just an extra layer added to how points are earned.

Again, thanks so much for the assistance!
