I'm trying to set up a catalogue and the PC or software just freezes.

Our county historical commission is having a book published and we want to be able to take credit cards when we take the book to conferences, book signing events, and by mail & phone orders.  I logged onto Square and tried to enter the book in a catalogue.  My thought was to enter the book twice.  One with no shipping included and one with shipping included.  I have a good scan of the title/cover of the book.  Everytime I try to establish this two item catalogue, my Dell PC just freezes.  It has happened for the past 4 or 5 days.  I must be doing something wrong but I can't determine what the problem is.

Hi @WCHC-77488, I can't speak to the freezing issue on your computer (other than to suggest trying it on another computer to narrow down the problem), but I can recommend that you set up one book item instead of two. And then add a second "Shipping" item. So you'd have two items:

 • Book

 • Shipping

If your area has sales tax that applies to books but not to shipping, you can configure the book item as taxable and the shipping item as non-taxable. So having shipping as a separate item will allow you to avoid collecting too much sales tax.

Having a separate Shipping item also gives you some flexibility. For example, if someone orders 5 books, and the cost to ship is, say, double the cost to ship 1 book, you could have a separate "Shipping Multiple Books" item.  You could also have an "International Shipping" item.

Before I set up Square, I made a list of all the ways I sell an item (or multiple items), and that helped me determine what settings I wanted in Square.

Hope that helps!

Owl,

Thank you for the advice!  I finally solved the problem of the freezing.  Square customer service suggested using a different browser other than Internet Explorer 11 that I have been using.  I tried with Firefox and it worked just fine.  I will switch from Explorer to Google Chrome.
