I have new chip reader but it won't show swipe only key in

I set up new account showed I already had chip reader but still can't swipe, only key in. Reader shows it is in place. I can order reader for free but I already have that.

If you're talking about the chip reader, it might need to be charged. Square Register will show that a reader gets plugged in, but it should say Reader Ready at the top of the screen if the reader is working.
