How should I ring out Inter-company (non-Square) gift cards?

Hi All,

 

The company I work for has a little paper "gift card" that people can buy, or someone people get rewarded with, is there a way to intergrate that with the Square Program?

Yes, At checkout you can select "Other" then "gift card".

 

Square Register will not track the value of the cards or the value left on them since they are not square gift cards.  So you'd have to write on the Paper the current remaing balance of the "card"

You can setup the Non-Square gift card as a discount and select the dollar sign, so that you can enter that amount during checkout for whatever amount the gift certificate if for.  It will show up as a discount on the receipt, but you will be able to make a note of it in your accounting records. Unfortunately, you can't put in a negative amount for gift certificate redemption.  This method is working well for me.  Hopefully this is something Square will look into in the future.  At this time they have it setup for you to buy their gift cards and sell them as well.

We are selling (and donating) hard copy Gift Certificates (not Gift Cards).  Can I set up Square so that our staff can record when they receive a Gift Certificate as means of payment when a customer redeems all or part of a GC?

I've merged your question to an existing thread where other sellers previously discussed issuing Inter-company (non-Square) gift cards/gift certificates.


 

Square Point of Sale enables you to organize checks, gift certificates, and other payment types.

Cash and Other Tender features are available for organizational purposes only.

 

No funds are actually processed when a payment is entered or refunded as cash or another tender. Square cannot process these transactions, as credit card information is never actually entered into our system.

 

 

To accept Cash and Other Tender payments with Square Point of Sale, follow these steps within the app:

  1. Tap the keypad icon to add a custom sale amount, or add items to the sale from your item library.
  2. To complete the payment, tap Charge.
  3. Tap Accept Cash. If you select cash, you’ll be prompted to enter the amount. You can also tap Other Payment Type or Other Gift Card or Certificate and add an optional note.
  4. Tap Tender.
  5. Have your customer select their receipt delivery method.

Please note: your payment is not complete until the confirmation screen has been displayed. You can always double-check if a payment was successful by visiting the Transactions tab in your app navigation.
