Can you require a category be selected when setting up new item?

My employees keep forgetting to assign a category to new items which screws up my reports. Is there a way to require them to select a category before moving forward?

We set up our Square POS with Categories and items under each Category. The employee must first hit the Category and then choose the ITEM within that Category. For example one of our Categories is French Fries, when the select that Category it opens up with Small French Fry, Medium French Fry, Large French Fry, etc, etc, etc.
