I did it from Square POS to Square for Retail and maintained everything. So I would think you should be able to especially if you can Try for Free the Square for Restaurants. I know I keep getting notifications that I can Try the Square for Retail Plus system for a certain time frame. I see this offer on my Square Dashboard, you may want to try it free to check it out first. All that happened to me is the Employees I created in the paid version lost their login since I went with the free version and have only 2 logins, 1 for owner and 1 for cashiers. I track payroll a different way than through Square though.
