Why Has My Square Debit Card Been Deactivated?

The title of this thread has been edited by a Square Moderator from the original: "Has anyone had their debit card deactivated?"

Last night my debit card was deactivated without a reason. Curious if anyone can offer a reason why that would happen.

Hi there @LucyH.. Since you didn't mention this, I have to ask -- have you filed a dispute for a charge on your Square debit card recently?  If so, that would definitely deactivate your card and you'd have to obtain a new one.

 

Otherwise, the only other cause of this I can think of is in your debit card settings.  Go there on your web dashboard and see if the "lock card" toggle is on for some reason.  If it is, you should be able to toggle it off.

 

If neither of these applies to you, let me know and we'll get the Community moderators involved.

No. Everything is normal, plenty of money in the account, no disputes ever. They directing me to order a replacement card and that was successful. I am just curious if it’s happened to anyone and why. I need to change it with my vendors so it’s a minor inconvenience, yet still a pain.

Trust me, I understand the inconvenience thing.  Still, I will go ahead and tag the Community moderators.  It's possible that they can check with the banking team to see if they see anything in your account that caused this.  I'm definitely out of ideas! LOL. I'm happy to hear that you have another card on its way.

Is there anything that you or the banking team can see in @LucyH's account that might have caused deactivation?  Obviously, this will be rectified soon, but it is still something that we'd be curious to know the reason for.   Thanks!
