Re: Customer identity of swipes

It is rediculous that I am mot about to get a customers name from a receipt.  I recently had a customer that filed a dispute for an item(s) he purchased in my store.  Total purchase was approx $165, the issue was with a $40 light bulb he purchased that did not work when he got home.   We told him he could return for a refund, or we could replace once they are restocked.  Two days later he filed a dispute for the entire $165 and the bank credited sided with him and gave him his money back.  Now the customer received their entire purchase for free.   I wonder if i could do this for a new car.   Just go buy it, and buy an upgraded radio at the same time to install myself, then file dispute item was not as described because tge radio did not work.   This is compleye fraud and theft and the credit card company allowed it.

Hi @Tahafisaka - Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Square Seller Community to bring this to our attention. I'm sorry to hear about this frustrating experience with your customer.

Square doesn’t decide who wins or loses a dispute—that’s up to the bank that issued your customer’s credit card (like Visa or MasterCard).  However, you have a better chance of avoiding future disputes by following a few best practices. Please see this article from our Support Center for further details. I also recommend looking over this article on how you can view and collect your customer's information.

I hope this information is helpful but please do let me know if you have any questions.

I understand that YOU do not decide, but you DO DECIDE not to capture the customers name.  I fully intend to pursue the customer for my products they basically STOLE!!!  They came into my physical store and purchased the items, I offered a refund if they returned the defective light bulb which I DO NOT MAKE, the manufacturer would also have replaced it. instead they filed a dispute and the bank gave them credit for their entire purchase, not just the faulty bulb.  I fully intend to press charges, but you do not make it easy being I do not have a NAME!  So instead, if you could send me the address to your legal department as I only have your information to start pressing charges and filing a lawsuit.
