Nested Modifiers

This is atopic in the community forum that I wanted to move to the feature request and it would be great to have it opened for voting and commenting.

One of the biggest drawbacks to Square for Restaurant’s menu feature is the inability to nest products beyond Item > Modifier. There are POS’s out there (such as Aloha), where you can create a Menu Item that drills down to the menu screen showing the first level of modifiers and then if any of those modifier options have the ability to be modified further, drills down into a second level of modifiers. Once the second modifier level is completed/filled out for the item, the screen kicks back to the first level modifier screen to continue working on the item. If another modifier item is selected with a second level modifier, the menu will drill into that screen to select the applicable options. The server is able to continue working through the menu item until all necessary first level modifiers and second level modifiers have been selected.

An example of this, for us as a Cafe, would be a “Build Your Own” Breakfast that combines typically a la Carte ordered items into one menu item with several modifiers. A guest could want “One Egg” or “Two Eggs” so in this scenario, we would select the modifier “One Egg” and Square for Restaurants would drill down into the next level modifier the allows the server to select the “Egg Type.” If we chose the Modifier “Two Eggs” then the same second level modifier would be used for the “Egg Type” to be selected. After the Egg Type is selected, we would move back to the first level modifier screen to continue selecting additional options to add to the “Build Your Own” Breakfast, such as a “Single Pancake”… which we allow the option to add strawberries, blueberries, chocolate chips or pecans to. If “Single Pancake” was selected, the server would be directed to the second level modifier screen to choose any applicable add-in.

Creating this ease of operation would have a major impact on my servers ability to easily upsell to our guests, and especially in the current economic situation we are in, the ability to increase check size by $1-$2 will make a huge difference for us, but also for industry users and would continue to push Square for Restaurants a leading POS isn’t he hospitality industry.

@AlexMPH You and I have submitted similar feature requests.  This is mine.  I’m going to upvote yours and hopefully we can start getting some traction on more customizable and useful modifiers.  Thanks for submitting this!

Agree 100% @AlexMPH and @TheRealChipA .   Having the ability to "modify a modifier" would be very helpful and actually reduce the steps needed to operate quickly in a quick-service operation.

This is a definite need and hopefully this is put in on the roadmap or has had at least internal discussions on this with Dev.

Programming our menu now and this is a definitive need for restaurants with kitchens. Creating a whole set of menu items that include the mod, like Caesar salad with Grilled Chicken, has become tedious for boh management and foh order entry.

We have been asking for this ability since day one (years ago) Seems like a simple request.

I hope square continues to focus more attention on the Restaurant features, a lot of improvements have been made but still lacking this feature.

This would indeed make menu entry so much more flexible. It would also need to work for the "Options" as well. So if a salad has the options of Chicken, Steak, Salmon, and Shrimp, picking the Steak would prompt for a temperature.

This would be a great addition to the restaurant platform. Please add this as a feature! It would honestly probably work better than the current combos available on square. As combos are great, the feature completely lacks the ability to create a set attached to multiple items causing the headache of having to set prices on each combo individually. Also making it so certain modifiers would go to specific KDS screens would be nice also.
