Manually create e-voucher without payment

Is it possible to manually create an e-voucher or gift card without transacting a payment?  For example, we would love to send out a $5 gift cards as a marketing exercise which could then be used at the Square Register in venue.

Hello @FortressMelb and thanks for your question. Because you mentioned "e-vouchers" I'm going to think you're asking about sending out a digital "card" through email? If that is the case, you could create any sort of graphic or email that indicates you're giving this offer to your customers. Then set-up a discount in your Square Dashboard for an amount of your offer, for example $5.00. When a customer comes in venue to pay at the Register, you would ring up their purchases and then apply the $5.00 discount, which essentially applies this virtual gift card.

If you want some more advanced tracking, you could email an offer through Square Loyalty. If you don't already participate with the Loyalty Program, it integrates beautifully with the Square Register and customers can check-in on the screen at checkout, and you can apply the code they receive through email for this discount. This makes tracking redemption super easy and allows for reporting to find out what promotions are best serving you and your customers.

Hope this helped you answer your question. Please let us know how we can help additionally. Happy selling with Square!

Hi @HC_Charlie and thanks for the response.  I really should have said e-gift card.  We have recently changed POS providers to Square, and this is a feature not currently covered by the system in a way we have used previously.  On our previous POS we were able to produce bulk unique codes that could be redeemed in a variety of ways - 10% off, buy one get one free, or free items are some examples.  We are looking for a way to provide a unique code that cant be shared, whereas a discount code is more generic.

also, once these codes were redeemed they were invalidated.

Ah okay. I think Square Marketing will generate unique one-time-use codes. If you send an email using Marketing, you can add a coupon section, and create different offers. Each person gets a unique code (or you could choose to make a general code). Then once these offers are redeemed they will go away in a customer’s profile.

FYI from your customer list on the Register you can search a customer name and see exactly what offers were emailed to them through Marketing.
