@nika Thanks but there's a problem with that which has been covered in a couple other threads.
If you take a deposit the option to use a card for the balance is not there, you are given a 'share the link' option which is really a lot more steps and pretty inconvenient if the customer is right in front of you with a card. For the life of me I can't understand why Square, who makes its money on processing, removes this option!!

Please note the ability to take in-person payments (via a card swipe or keyed entry) towards a deposit or partial balance is currently unavailable. In-person payments can only be taken for the total invoice amount.
The only workaround is to take the split payments as if it were a sale happening right then, which you can do on the Square POS and then mark the invoice paid by Square but ONLY on the PC dashboard (another baffling nuisance). And of course that could mess up the cash/check/card totals at the end of the day. As you can see, a whole lot of other steps to end up with a still imperfect end result.
