I'm considering changing from Square Terminal to Square Register, but in order to do that I would probably want to mount the customer display somewhere on my counter so it can't be moved around and/or be easily stolen by someone.
Is this possible?
This is working as intended/expected. 🙂
It serves 2 purposes, it's a deterrent for people that might want to grab it and run. And it removes the glare from overhead lights which made the display hard to read when it's flat on the counter.
As you can tell from my original photo of just the mount, it's a Maclocks (or Compulocks) Hovertab mount. If you search around you can find them at different prices.
There's no obvious way to permanently mount the display to a counter, and there's not much area where you could attach double-sided tape to do it. Since the display is either hooked directly onto the Register or attached via a cable, there doesn't seem like much that someone could do to steal it, since it's hard-wired on the display unit and plugs into the Register. The person would have to reach over the counter and unplug the display before they could make off with it, which would be very difficult if you have the Register unit attached to your counter since the display cord plugs into the bottom of it. Cutting the cord wouldn't do them much good, either. We leave ours as it is since the customer display needs to be moved a certain amount to account for right and left handed people to sign it.
People do strange things. We once had someone grab our VX805 remote/pin pad and run out the door, breaking the wires in the process.
Mounting it with a mount that swiveled eliminated that possibility from happening again. It was bolted to the counter, but could swivel for left/right handed people.
I was hoping for something similar for the Square display.
I can definitely see how that could be an issue, since the micro usb cable is removable both from the register as well as from the Customer facing display.
We keep our Display mounted to the Register with the Register mounted to the counter so there's little room for theft there.
I THINK I may have found something that will work. But I won't know until our register gets here and I can manually test it to see if it will work the way I think it will. It might be a minor inconvenience for left handed people because what I have in mind doesn't swivel, but I'll have to see about that.
I'll post back here with more info if I find it will work.
This photo shows an iPad in a vertical position, but it also works horizontally and might work with the customer display. But I'm not sure about where the cable connects on the display and if the stand would still be usable or not.
Well that's super cool! I think it would definitely work if you mount it low enough on the back of the customer facing display to leave room for the "ridge" where the wire connects!

Absolutely amazing, @HeatherM !
I'm so glad that it works, and I might have to try it at my shop too now!
Thanks for finding it & sharing!
