What's New From Square: June Features Coming Soon (Volume 6)

Hey Square Community,

A few weeks ago, we rolled out Volume 5, and the response has been incredible. Thank you to everyone who shared feedback, asked questions, and helped other sellers navigate the changes.

We're here with another set of features and improvements coming soon across inventory management, payments, banking, kitchen operations, online ordering, and device management. Some are available for early access, and the rest will be fully available by June 25.

This is Volume 6. Here's what's new.

Inventory Management

Automatically deduct from item total using negative-priced modifiers 🇦🇺 🇨🇦 🇬🇧 🇮🇪 🇺🇸

Modifier options can carry a negative price that deducts from the item total at checkout — no manual adjustments or workaround discounts needed. A deli that charges less when a customer removes an ingredient (e.g., "no cheese" at −$1) sees the deduction applied automatically when that modifier is selected.

Why it matters: Sellers offering "remove" or "downgrade" options have been stuck creating separate items or applying manual discounts mid-transaction to reflect the lower price. That slows down the line and introduces errors. Negative-priced modifiers let the catalog do the math, keeping checkout fast and accurate without extra steps from staff.

Access: Available now on the Free plan. In Square Dashboard, create or edit a modifier set, add an option, and enter a negative value in the price field.

Set price overrides across multiple locations at once 🇺🇸 🇦🇺 🇯🇵 🇬🇧 🇨🇦 🇮🇪 🇫🇷

Sellers with multiple locations set different prices for the same item across several locations in a single action instead of editing each location one at a time. Price overrides are grouped by item for faster review.

Why it matters: Multi-location sellers operating in different markets — a downtown café versus a suburban outpost, or locations in different countries — often need location-specific pricing. Previously, updating prices meant repeating the same edit at every location individually. Bulk price overrides cut that repetitive work down to one action and make it straightforward to audit which locations carry which price.

Access: Available now on the Free plan. Open an item in Square Dashboard, navigate to the pricing section, and set overrides for multiple locations in a single save.

Payments & Checkout

Audible speaker cue for declined payments on Point of Sale 🇦🇺 🇨🇦 🇬🇧 🇮🇪 🇺🇸

Square Point of Sale plays a distinct tone through the device speaker when a card payment is declined. The cue is audible even in loud environments. Sellers turn the speaker cue on or off and preview the sound from device settings.

Why it matters: In a busy shop or a loud counter-service environment, staff don't always notice a visual decline message right away — especially if they've already turned to prep the next order. An audible cue catches attention immediately so the team can ask for another payment method before the customer walks away, reducing missed declines and awkward follow-ups.

Access: Available now on the Free plan. On the Square Point of Sale device, go to Settings → Hardware → Speaker and turn on the declined-payment sound cue.

Print an additional receipt at checkout on Terminal 🇦🇺 🇨🇦 🇬🇧 🇮🇪 🇺🇸

A per-device setting on Square Terminal prints a second itemized receipt at the end of a standard checkout. The setting applies only to the specific device where it is enabled — other Square Terminal units keep their existing behavior.

Why it matters: Sellers who need a store copy and a customer copy — or who hand one receipt to the customer and file another for record-keeping — have been printing manually or asking customers to wait. A second automatic receipt at checkout removes that extra step and keeps the line moving.

Access: Available now on the Free plan. On Square Terminal, go to Settings → Checkout → Receipts and turn on the additional receipt option. The setting applies per device.

Menu & Kitchen Operations

Customize display options in Order Manager 🇦🇺 🇨🇦 🇬🇧 🇮🇪 🇺🇸

Sellers hide fulfillment methods that don't apply to their business from Order Manager — for example, removing Shipments if the business never ships orders. A running sales total for the logged-in team member is also available as a display option.

Why it matters: Order Manager shows every fulfillment type by default, which clutters the view for sellers who only do pickup or dine-in. Hiding irrelevant methods keeps the screen focused on what matters. The per-team-member sales total gives shift leads and commission-based staff a live read on performance without pulling a separate report.

Access: Available now on the Free plan. Open Order Manager and look for display settings to hide or show fulfillment methods and the team member sales total.

Online Ordering & Fulfillment

Uber Eats integration available 🇬🇧

Food and beverage sellers link an Uber Eats account directly from Square Dashboard at no additional cost. Uber Eats orders appear alongside all other orders — including on the Kitchen Display System. Menu changes sync automatically, and sales reports include Uber Eats data without extra apps or manual steps.

Why it matters: Sellers managing Uber Eats separately have been toggling between platforms, manually updating menus in two places, and reconciling sales data after the fact. A direct integration brings Uber Eats orders into the same workflow as dine-in, pickup, and other delivery channels — one screen for the kitchen, one set of reports, and one place to update the menu.

Access: Available now on the Free plan for sellers in the United Kingdom. In Square Dashboard → Sales channels, connect an existing Uber Eats account.

Operations & Device Management

Adjustable font size for printed receipts 🇦🇺 🇨🇦 🇬🇧 🇮🇪 🇺🇸

Receipt font size is configurable to small, medium, or large on a per-station basis. Each station prints at its own chosen size independent of other devices.

Why it matters: A single font size doesn't work for every environment. A quick-service counter where customers glance at receipts briefly benefits from large, scannable text. A fine-dining restaurant printing detailed itemizations may prefer smaller type to keep receipts compact. Per-station control means each location — or each register within a location — prints at the size that works best for its customers and staff.

Access: Available now. On the station, go to Settings → Hardware → Printer and select the preferred font size (small, medium, or large).

Manage variation preselection independent of the item details screen 🇦🇺 🇨🇦 🇬🇧 🇮🇪 🇺🇸

Sellers control whether the first variation of an item is automatically selected or requires manual selection before the item is added to a check. This setting operates independently of the "Skip customization when possible" option.

Why it matters: Previously, preselection behavior was tied to the broader customization-skip setting, which forced sellers into an all-or-nothing choice. A coffee shop that wants staff to always choose a size (small, medium, large) but still skip the customization screen for single-variation items can now separate those two behaviors. Each setting does one thing, reducing accidental mis-rings.

Access: Available now on the Free plan. On Square Point of Sale, go to Settings → Checkout and adjust the variation preselection setting independently of the skip-customization option.

Persistent alerts for new online orders on Point of Sale 🇦🇺 🇨🇦 🇬🇧 🇮🇪 🇺🇸

A full-screen alert with a looping chime plays on Square Point of Sale when an online or third-party marketplace order arrives. The alert repeats until a team member acknowledges it. Alert duration, sound, and on/off state are adjustable per device in settings.

Why it matters: A single chime or a small banner is too easy to miss during a rush — and a missed online order means a late pickup, a frustrated customer, and wasted prep time. Persistent full-screen alerts with a repeating sound make it nearly impossible for an order to go unnoticed, even when the counter is slammed and no one is watching the screen.

Access: Available now on the Free plan. On Square Point of Sale, go to Settings → Notifications → Online orders and turn on persistent alerts. Adjust sound and duration per device.

Sync item grids across locations from Point of Sale on iOS 🇦🇺 🇨🇦 🇬🇧 🇮🇪 🇺🇸

Item grids created in Standard Mode on Square Point of Sale for iOS sync from one location to others without rebuilding them manually at each site.

Why it matters: Multi-location sellers who build a carefully organized item grid — grouping bestsellers on the first page, arranging categories by frequency — have had to recreate that layout from scratch at every new location. Syncing grids across locations preserves the layout work and keeps the checkout experience consistent for staff who float between sites.

Access: Available now on the Free plan. On Square Point of Sale for iOS in Standard Mode, open the item grid settings and select which locations receive the synced grid.

Banking & Financial Services

Automated sales tax withholding for Square Savings 🇺🇸

The Automated Sales Tax Folder is a Square Savings feature that automatically sets aside sales tax funds from every card sale into a dedicated folder within your Square Savings account. No manual calculations, no guesswork — just the percentage you set reserved, every time.

Why it matters: Sales tax season shouldn't be stressful. Instead of scrambling to pull together funds when your tax bill is due, this feature works quietly in the background — sweeping tax funds from each transaction into a dedicated folder. Whether you run one location or several across different tax jurisdictions, the percentage of each card sale you set is always set aside automatically based on the tax rate applied at the point of sale.

Access: The Automated Sales Tax Folder is available to Square sellers through your Square Savings account. Sales tax rates are pulled directly from your existing Square tax settings, so if you've already configured your sales tax rates, you're ready to go. Simply enable the automated sweep and let your Sales Tax folder do the rest.

Earn 1.5% cash back on every purchase with Square Credit Card 🇺🇸

Square Credit Card now earns 1.5% cash back on every purchase — up from the previous 1% rate. The updated rate applies to all existing and new cardholders.

Why it matters: Business expenses add up — supplies, inventory, software subscriptions, fuel. A higher cash-back rate on every purchase means more money flowing back into the business without changing spending habits or chasing rotating bonus categories. The increase from 1% to 1.5% applies across the board with no caps or category restrictions.

Access: Available now for all Square Credit Card holders in the United States. No action required — the 1.5% rate applies automatically.

🎉 Your Feedback in Action

These updates are a direct result of feedback and feature requests shared across the community! Here's how the Community helped shape what we're launching:

Negative modifiers: @Carson034 @RollinCubanos @Snyder2009 and @Pasha have been asking for the ability to subtract price via modifiers for years — from combo meal discounts to removing toppings. This feature directly delivers what you asked for. Now you can create modifiers that reduce the item total at checkout.

Audible cue for declined payments: @Madmacs @BandicootBooks @TJC1982 and others flagged that the Square Reader beeps and flashes green even when a card is declined — leading to customers walking out thinking they paid. @ParkersTable1 reported the same confusion. Now, a distinct decline tone makes it immediately clear when a payment fails.

Persistent alerts for online orders: This was one of the most-requested improvements. @kbrandhagen @SNSBV @Cooked4U @PickupsPizza1 @Haiku1 @2A311117 @moosecrossing and others have shared frustration about missed online orders due to quiet or dismissible notifications. The new persistent alerts ensure you never miss an incoming order — even during a rush.

Adjustable receipt font size: Sellers like @Greenleaves2go @1232 or @Bar413 have long asked for the need to customize the font size on printed receipts. You can now choose small, medium, or large font sizes for printed receipts.

Print additional receipt on Terminal: As sellers like @JaylaursStudios and @HilaryGreif flagged, printing a second receipt from the Square Terminal can be a manual task and requires a workaround to automate it. Now, you can set this up without any additional steps.

Bulk price overrides across locations: @arothman described the pain of needing to update prices across multiple locations one by one — especially when using location-specific price overrides. Now you can bulk-edit prices across all your locations at once.

Sync item grids across locations: @Danielgray asked about the ability to set up a new location and automatically have the same grid layout on their device. Now, this is possible for all sellers using the Square Point of Sale standard mode on iOS.

Automated sales tax withholding: Sellers like @Kate18 previously asked for the ability to split their deposit and have sales tax go into a different account to reduce the need for calculation or manual transfer. You can now automate this process using Square Checking.
