Hey Square Community,
We're rolling out a wave of new features and improvements across inventory management, payments, kitchen operations, device settings, online ordering, and banking. Some are live now, and the rest will be fully available by July 23.
This is Volume 8. Here's what's new.

Sellers nest a modifier set under a specific modifier choice, and those selections only appear when that choice is picked — up to three levels deep. For example, selecting "oat milk" as a milk choice prompts a follow-up sweetness level. Staff and customers see one clean decision path instead of every possible option at once.
Why it matters: Without nesting, sellers have been duplicating modifier sets or cramming conditional choices into a single flat list. That clutters the screen for staff, confuses customers ordering online, and creates maintenance headaches every time the menu changes. Nested modifiers keep each step contextual — only showing what's relevant based on the previous selection.
Access: Available for sellers on the Plus plan. Set up nested modifiers in Square Dashboard → Items → Modifier Sets by selecting a modifier choice and attaching a follow-up modifier set.

Auto-gratuity calculates on the pre-discount subtotal instead of the discounted total. Sellers can also set multiple auto-gratuity rates for different service scenarios — such as one rate for large parties and another for private events.
Why it matters: When auto-gratuity calculates after a discount, staff receive a smaller tip than the service warranted. A 20% comp on a £200 table shouldn't reduce the auto-gratuity from £24 to £19.20 when the team delivered full service on the original amount. Calculating on the pre-discount subtotal keeps gratuity aligned with the work performed, and multiple rate options let sellers match the charge to the occasion.
Access: Available for sellers on the Plus plan. Configure auto-gratuity rates and the calculation basis in Square Dashboard → Payments → Auto-Gratuity.

A sorting setting on Kitchen Display System lets sellers choose how ticket items appear: by the order they were rung in, alphabetically, or grouped by reporting category. Category sorting clusters related items together on the ticket — all appetizers in one block, all mains in another.
Why it matters: During a rush, cooks scan tickets fast. When a ticket lists items in the order they were punched — appetizer, dessert, main, appetizer — the line cook has to hunt for their items. Category grouping puts each station's work in a consistent spot on every ticket, reducing read time and missed items.
Access: Available for sellers on the Plus plan. Go to Kitchen Display System → Settings → Ticket Layout and select the preferred item sort order.
Sellers choose between DoorDash or Best Available (powered by Nash) as the on-demand delivery courier for each Food & Beverage ordering profile, set independently by location.
Why it matters: A seller with multiple locations may find that DoorDash provides faster pickups in one neighborhood while Nash's multi-courier network offers better coverage in another. Per-location courier selection lets sellers optimize delivery speed and reliability based on what actually works in each area, rather than locking every location into a single provider.
Access: Available now on the Free plan. In Square Dashboard → Online Ordering → Delivery Settings, select the courier for each location's ordering profile.

Printer profile settings control whether top and bottom padding appears on printed order tickets. A separate setting determines whether the ticket footer — which includes device and profile information — prints.
Why it matters: Extra whitespace and footer lines waste thermal paper on every single ticket. High-volume kitchens printing hundreds of tickets a day burn through rolls faster than necessary. Removing padding and footers also makes tickets shorter and quicker to scan on the line.
Access: Available on the Free plan. Go to Square Dashboard → Devices → Printer Profiles, select a profile, and adjust the padding and footer settings.
Sellers update an item's price or margin directly from the inventory receive screen and stock overview item details on Square Point of Sale. When a shipment arrives at a new cost, the margin impact is visible immediately, and repricing happens on the spot.
Why it matters: Receiving inventory and adjusting prices have historically been separate tasks in separate places. A seller accepting a delivery at a higher cost had to finish receiving, navigate to item settings, recalculate the margin, and update the price — all while the next shipment waits. Inline editing during the receive step keeps pricing decisions in context, right when cost information is fresh.
Access: Available for sellers on the Plus plan. When receiving inventory on Square Point of Sale, tap an item's price or margin field to edit directly from the receive screen.

Staff combine multiple tables into one group directly from Square Point of Sale during service. The tables move together on the floor plan, the table number updates even after an order has been placed, and merged tables share a single check.
Why it matters: When a party of four becomes a party of eight, or two couples decide to sit together, servers have been closing out one table and re-entering items on another — or running two separate checks and mentally tracking them as one group. Merging tables mid-service keeps the floor plan accurate, consolidates the check, and lets teams handle flexible seating without interrupting the guest experience.
Access: Available now. On Square Point of Sale, select a table on the floor plan and use the merge option to combine it with another table during active service.
In Real Time Check View, a live cart panel sits alongside the item details screen in Food & Beverage modes, showing price, modifier, and quantity changes as each item is configured. Tap an item once to open its configuration. Press and hold to select multiple items for bulk actions like comp, void, move, or remove. Custom amounts are entered from the Actions tab — the calculator keypad has been retired.
Why it matters: Previously, staff configured an item blind — adding modifiers and adjusting quantities without seeing the running total until they returned to the full check. That led to pricing surprises and slowed down order corrections. A live cart alongside the configuration screen gives immediate confirmation that each change registered correctly, and bulk selection reduces the taps needed to comp or void multiple items at once.
Access: Available on the Free plan. The live cart panel appears automatically in Food & Beverage modes on Square Point of Sale when Real Time Check View is active.
Sellers select a Square Credit Card as a payment method in Bill Pay to pay vendors who don't accept cards directly. Bill Pay converts the payment into an ACH transfer, check, or another supported method for the vendor. A Bill Pay credit card fee applies and displays at the time of the card transaction.
Why it matters: Many vendors — landlords, wholesale suppliers, utility companies — only accept checks or bank transfers. Sellers who want to earn rewards or manage cash flow through their Square Credit Card have had no way to route those payments through the card. Bill Pay bridges that gap by handling the conversion on the back end, so sellers pay with their card and the vendor receives funds in their preferred format.
Access: Available now on the Free plan. In Square Dashboard → Bill Pay, select a Square Credit Card as the payment method when scheduling a vendor payment.

These updates are a direct result of feedback and feature requests shared across the community! Here's how the Community helped shape what we're launching:
Build multi-step modifier flows with nested options: Sellers have been asking for nested modifiers since 2023 — the ability to nest a modifier set under a specific choice so customers only see relevant follow-up options. Now you can build up to three levels deep, keeping each step contextual. Shoutout to @Shackfam505, @ChefChip, @MisterKK, and @AlexMPH for championing this!
Group items by category on Kitchen Display System: Sellers told us they needed KDS tickets organized by category so line cooks stop hunting for their station's items during a rush. Category grouping now clusters related items together on every ticket. Shoutout to @Eggmanatx and @duffymahoney for raising this!
Control ticket padding in printer profiles: Sellers described how their kitchens get overwhelmed when multiple online orders land simultaneously.... Now you can add buffer time between tickets to pace incoming orders during rushes. Shoutout to @pigsnoseinn and @jerwgar for raising this!
Select a delivery courier per location: Multi-location sellers told us they needed per-store courier flexibility instead of being locked into a single provider eve... Now you can set a preferred courier per location based on what works in each area. Thanks to @dmoeller for surfacing this!
Pay vendors with a Square Credit Card through Bill Pay: Sellers asked for the ability to use a credit card — not just a bank account — to pay vendors through Bill Pay. Now you can select your Square Credit Card as a payment method when scheduling vendor payments. Thanks to @astock87 for surfacing this!
