Square Online is excited to announce our integration of Afterpay, allowing you to offer a buy now, pay later payment option on your Square Online site. Available now, Afterpay lets your customers pay in four equal, interest-free installments over six weeks, while you get paid in full immediately. Learn more here.

Try Afterpay at no extra charge

Through May 10, 2022, you’ll pay the same 2.2% processing fee for Afterpay transactions as you do on all Square Online transactions. There’s no additional setup cost or monthly fee.1 2

Benefits of accepting Afterpay

✔️   Drive incremental sales: Sellers see a 20% increase in cart conversion on average, and more repeat customers.

✔️    Increase average order value: Afterpay lets customers get what they want, when they want it, increasing average order value by up to 40%.

✔️    Attract new customers: Merchants find that 30% or more of Afterpay customers are  new to their brand.

How Afterpay works for you

✔️    Get paid upfront: You'll get paid within days for purchases made with Afterpay.

✔️    Minimise your risk: We take on the risk, including chargebacks and fraud so you can focus on growing your business.

✔️    Receive daily settlement reports: Get access to transactional information that you can use to reconcile or verify orders.

With Afterpay, you’ll never miss out on a big sale.  And unlike other installment platforms competitors, Afterpay doesn’t require additional integration—it’s automatically available as a Square payment option for Square Online, and works out of the box. You’ll  also get paid up front—we assume the risk, including chargebacks and fraud.

Just tried it out, and it looks great.  EXCEPT when I try to place a test/dummy order, I keep getting this:

The address on there is my shop address. I don't have any limitations on delivery area except that I don't ship outside of Australia.  Please help!

@SweetRelief I just responded to your initial post in the previous thread, copying over here as well to cover all bases!

Without being able to look into your account back end, on the face of it this looks like the local delivery area function working as intended. Are you able to check these settings, or did you intend to test the feature for shipping rather than local delivery?

If this address is definitely within the defined rules of your delivery radius or postcodes though, support will be able to help further - but first I want to make sure the most obvious answer can be ruled out!

Note: I've removed your screenshot as we have a community policy against posting personal information in public here. For your safety, it's probably best to avoid posting your name and address online in public places 🙂

Im having the same issue as SweetRelief, is someone able to tell me how to fix this issue so im able ti offer afterpay to my customers? Thankyou!

@SweetRelief At this time, Afterpay is not supported for delivery orders. Afterpay shouldn't be showing at all if you have delivery selected as your fulfillment. I've tested on your site and a few others and I'm not able to get Afterpay to come up for delivery (as expected). Can you send me a DM and let me know step by step how you're getting to that error so we can dig a little deeper?

@Barbara_B i understand what your saying now, how do i get the afterpay side to recognise that its a shipping address (not a delivery address)

@Barbara_B I am at work and don't have time to do that atm.  When you select delivery for an order, Afterpay doesn't show at all during checkout.  This error is only occuring when you select "shipping". If I select "pickup" it works perfectly with no error.

Additionally, not having Afterpay for local delivery orders is really bad for businesses like mine who specialise in gift hampers, and others like florists etc.  Why has it been set up like this?  This is very limiting.

@SweetRelief Working with the Square Online and Afterpay engineering teams to troubleshoot the shipping address issue right now. As far as the restriction on delivery orders, I understand that it's not ideal. This is just the first stage of the integration and we'll be expanding in a lot of ways in the coming weeks and months. I know unlocking delivery is a high priority for a lot of merchants and will share your feedback with the team.

Is someone able to pay using afterpay to pay a invoice sent from our square accounts (app)?

Hey @Jasmae 👋

Not yet - we've started with Square Online for now, but keep an eye out for more Afterpay news in the future by subscribing to our Product Updates board 🙂

@SweetRelief @Jasmae Our engineers are still working on debugging the issue with shipping address. For the time being, we've disabled Afterpay in AU so that your buyers can check out as usual and will not see an error. We'll have a fix out early in the day (US time) and no further action will be required on your part. Very sorry for this unexpected issue!

@SweetRelief @Jasmae The integration is good to go again. Make sure when testing that:

  • The amount is for $50 - $2000
  • The fulfilment is for shipping or pickup (local delivery is currently unavailable with Afterpay)

I have had a customer tonight try to use Afterpay here in Australia 02/02/22 @ 2045hrs - She has an order over $50 ($53)& has clicked shipping ($13.00) yet once through the afterpay and back to the checkout section it has come  up INVALID ITEM SKU?? Any idea why?Screenshot_20220202-212642_Business SuiteE.jpg

Hi @KathleenCamo,

Sorry to hear about the trouble here- are you still seeing this issue now?

Is this not available in Canada yet?

Square Community Moderator

@LukeNieuw not yet - we've launched here in Australia and also the USA to begin with, keep an eye on our Canadian Seller Community for future announcements for Canada!

I would really like to offer this on my website without having to setup a store with square. This is a big need please

Square Community Moderator

@Angie82 many online store providers already feature Afterpay as a payment option! It's ultimately up to the provider you use to integrate Afterpay as a payment method on their platform, so you'd need to reach out to your online store provider and check if they plan on building an Afterpay integration.

@Seamus I have been on chat with square this morning and they said it is coming for the square integration. My website doesn't integrate using the afterpay platform and won't be so this is my only option to do so

Will Afterpay be available for Square appointments\payments?

if so is there a ETA?

Square Community Moderator

Hey @BTails,

While we don't have an ETA to share, we'll be working on integrating Afterpay across our product ecosystem in the coming months. The best place to get updates is our Product Updates board!

the afterpay minimum is a great addition, but why do we have to select a minimum $ for both items and orders?

many of our products are under $10 and want to have a minimum order amount of $50 for afterpay but the system isn’t letting me do this as the item $ can’t be below the order $

Square Community Moderator

Hey @Pete3805,

This does seem a little odd - have you tried testing by setting your item minimum at $50 and your order minimum at $50? I'm hoping that what you want to do may actually be doable, and that perhaps the wording in the options is a little unclear.

I'd suggesting trying this, then testing by placing an order that exceeds $50 and is made up of sub-$50 items. I'm wondering if the order total will then override the item minimum value. I tested it out to the point of making a $50+ order of sub $50 items and Afterpay appeared as an option:

Though I don't have an Afterpay account so can't fully test it to conclusion.

I'd be surprised if an order that exceeded the minimum order value was rejected on the grounds that it was made up of multiple lower priced items. Let me know how you go, I'll also pass this feedback onto our team - it does seem a little confusing!
