The title of this thread has been edited by a Square Moderator from the original: "new phone-google pixel6. compatible with chip reader?"
Is the google pixel6 phone going to be compatible soon or not? Is there a way to pair it with the chip reader?

Hey @clayboy
The chip reader (not the mag strip) should pari fine with any phone via bluetooth.
Hi @clayboy,
Just going to pop in here and say that while most Google Pixel devices are compatible with the Square Reader, the Google Pixel 6 is not currently on our list of supported devices - as it is not tested, we cannot guarantee that it would work.
We do our best to support all devices but not all may meet all the requirements for compatibility but still not communicate properly with the Square hardware or the Square apps.
If you have tried to pair your Reader to the Google Pixel 6 and it has not worked, you can check out our compatibility page to see that Android devices that we can guarantee will work.
Also I notice this is your first post so welcome to the Seller Community 👋
My understanding from a couple months ago was that Square was working on this. Any idea if that's the case, or not so much?
My new cell phone is an iPhone XS I need a new mag strip reader on your ad I see 2 readers one will not work the other one will
Hi Jeff! I've been unable to pair my wireless card reader with my Google Pixel 6, as well. Have you been successful since your post a couple weeks ago?
Hey,
No, I haven't had any sucess, so I went and picked up the Square terminal as I need a card reader now. Hope you have better luck. According to the list of compatible devices, the Pixel 6 is untested. Wished I'd have known before hand. LOL.
Jeff
We purchased new Pixel 6 phones for our employees. As of today (4/13/2022) the card reader does not work with our Pixel 6. This is after Square tech support told me that since there is not a port for the stripe reader on our new phones that I should get the chip reader and it would connect via Bluetooth. No way. What a pain. Going to look at other processors to see who can get the job done.
Hello @bolt1, and welcome to the Seller Community.
I believe there is some troubleshooting that we may need to work on here. I can definitely confirm that the Pixel 6 is compatible with the Square Contactless and Chip Reader and you should be able to pair it using Bluetooth to your device via the Square Point of Sale app (not via Bluetooth settings) to process payments.
Have you checked out our Troubleshooting Steps for this reader? I hope this information is helpful!
I tried a lot of the things listed in the trouble shooting steps, but I will try them again. I had seen previous posts that said the reader was not compatible with the Pixel 6 so I thought that was still true. One thing the trouble shooting listed was removing other Bluetooth devices from proximity as my old phone was in the same room. I will retry and let you know what I find out. Thank you for responding.
OK. I have tried all the steps listed in the trouble shooting including resetting the reader and the phone numerous times and still no luck. I was pairing through the app. I can get as far as the app recognizing the reader but then it says updating reader but never connects to it after that. I'm disappointed and ready to move on. How do I return the reader?
I am also unable to connect my new reader to my pixel 6. Since there is no phone plug or lightening connection I'm not sure what to do. I need to have a way to use square for an upcoming sale....help!!!
I gave up and ended up purchasing a tablet to use for Square sales.
I am having issues with pixel 6 phone and the new version 2 chip reader I just purchased. It oasis but says device incompatible. My old chip reader works fine. What the heck?
Ran across this thread when I couldn't connect to the pixel phone. I was able to figure it out, I hope my notes help someone.
Users must pair the readers using the Square APP.
During the pairing process the a wait screen will be displayed with the message Pairing with Contactless + Chip.
Once the APP has made contact the following is added to the message
Android may require you accept the pairing prompt twice to connect your reader for security purposes.
At this point, Android will display a notification for the pairing request. Because the Square APP takes up the full screen, you will not see the notifications. Swipe down from the top of the screen to see the Android Pairing request notification.
Click on Pair & connect. You will see no acknowledgement of the click.
Now swipe up to dismiss the notification screen and you will see yet another pairing request as a pop-up message.
Click on the Pair button.
Finally, these steps will need to be repeated once more.
