Hi Guys,
we're working on our website and have recently launched but there appears to be an indexing issue with the Weebly System itself. Now, before you reply, this isn't just an SEO issue, it's actually from what we can see a development bug with the system.
Now allow me to elaborate. According to the Weebly documentation the Robots.txt file is dynamically generated and not manually created or editable. The process of launching your website according to weebly is to do the following
Now if all is good and well then the sitemap.xml file should generate. Which ours has.
Next we configure Google Analytics, Tag Manager and Search Console etc.
From here we should be able to submit the sitemap or individual URLS.
Now here is where our problem lies... The dynamically generated Robots.txt file generated by the Weebly system is still reading as no-index, even with all the above steps completed.
This is preventing our sitemap and individual URLS's from being submitted.
Unless we can modify the robots.txt file we are pretty stuffed. You could argue that perhaps this is a caching issue, well there is no Weebly cache for account users so we also waited 24 hours wondering if this would clear and tried again this morning. No Success.
So with all the above in mind, we are hoping someone from Weebly sees this thread and does something about it rather than incorrectly flagging it as an SEO issue.
Looking at the forums many customers are having a similar issue so either A) Something is missing from your documentation launch process or B there is a serious issue with the software.
If anyone else has had a similar problem and found a solution please let us know.
Many thanks for your time.
