Automation and its sub-issues

We have wanted to have functional and workload-easing automations since we started our current biz iteration in 2019. We are a guitar repair shop and everything starts with a numbered repair tag and an estimate with the same number. Some time later (days to weeks), this gets converted to an invoice. Square has never implemented automation triggers from Estimates (no webhooks, no APIs).

Assuming those estimate triggers are never coming, we have tried workarounds. Our latest thought is to auto-convert every estimate to a draft invoice  (a setting that exists) and thereby gain access to the webhooks from invoices. BUT... when you convert an estimate to an invoice, Square changes the ID number to a basically random new number. So, baby steps, can we get a setting that allows us to maintain the Estimate ID on the Invoice that is created from it? I also submitted this as a feature request. Otherwise, any one have automation workarounds from estimates??? To re-state the obvious, the best solution would be webhooks from Estimates and we are puzzled why Square will not allow this, even as part of a paid upgrade.

If you use Square plus estimates will automatically convert to invoices when customer accepts.    Not sure if it creates a new invoice number
