Sales Report on Non Reporting Categories

Hi,

I have a mobile bookstore, and I input my books and categorize them as Used Books> Romance, or New Books> Thriller, so the reporting categories are umbrella categories of Used Books or New Books, but is there a way to see the non reporting category sales for Romance or Thriller books?
Thank you

Hello @TheReadery thank you so much for reaching out!

I’m wondering if the Category Sales Report gives you the information you need. If not, could you share a bit more about what you’re hoping to accomplish? I’d love to point you in the right direction.

Hi @MayaP

The Category sales report only shows the books as Used - not by the other category listed.

It's like Used Books is the umbrella - and Romance is a subcategory and I can't find a report to show that.

But I can see Romance and Thriller under Categories in the Items Library/Inventory, just can't separate it out on a sales report.

On the spreadsheet where I upload inventory, there are two categories on the spreadsheet so I do for sure want to know Used vs New book sales - as categories - but I also would like to see genre sales - Romance vs Thriller vs Young Adult.

Hi there @TheReadery.. So I believe there is a way to do what you want using the Category Sales Report, with a little effort.  It involves using Category Rollups.

Click the Rollups button on the report.  Create a rollup called "Romance" and add romance categories to it.  Do the same for the other you want to report on.  These rollups will be saved so you can reuse them as you want in your reporting.

You could also use this to create reporting on, say, fiction vs. non-fiction, without creating a separate category for that.

I think this will work for you, but let me know if you run into any issues.  If you do, a screen shot or two would be helpful.

Hmm. It won't allow me to insert images but I do not have a toolbar on my Category Sales Report screen.

Aaah, here are the screenshots. I don't have a toolbar under Category Sales to select Rollup.

Can you send me a screenshot of where this would be?

Any idea why they wouldn't see the rollups? @TheRealChipA

Could it be because I'm retail and not a restaurant? Or also because I am using the free Square version?

Yes, you will need to opt into one of the Plus or Premium plans to access the roll-up feature.

It looks like the specific category reporting you are looking for is not available right now. You can always share this feedback on the Ideate board. I am sorry there is not a solution at the moment. If you need anything else, please let me know. I am happy to help.
