I know this is a Square forum but when I tried Quickbooks to look up pricing for QuickBooks Desktop 2024 all I can find is Quickbooks Desktop Enterprise about $1465 a year. This is over double what I paid in 2023 for Desktop Premeir Subscription for Desktop 2021. Everything keeps directing me to QBO... which with my situation does not fit. Since we not only do retail but we also do Manufacturing which requires inventory for production and WIP.
I am not even sure I can do this with QBonline even with the highest plan of $200 a month. Which is way over budget for accounting software.
So my questions are:
1) What accounting software does everyone use that can keep track of inventory for sale and for production?
2) If Quickbooks Subscription runs out and I can not get an upgrade anymore, will I be able to use QBD 2021 as is with no more updates or upgrades? Since I use Square also I do not have any CC processing through QB or any Payroll....meaning no added services.
3) I called Quickbooks and they are basically telling me to go to Online that is where everything is headed. They did give me a link to update, upgrade my current package but the EUA must be agreed to which states that if I do this update/upgrade if in the future QB discontinues Desktop versions I have to basically go online and will no longer have use of QBDesktop. So I do not want to sign this yet thinking this clause may not be in the 2021 version.
Doing google searches on this matter is just confusing because some places say it will work as a desktop with no updates or upgrades avail. Even QB support said it will, then said I had to update to 2024 to continue.....
This is from QBs--
This is where I get confused.... Since I use none of the premium stuff will I be basically blocked out of manually entering any data also?
"If you don't upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop 2021 by May 31, 2024, you won't have access to live technical support if you run into problems or any of the other Intuit services that can be integrated with QuickBooks Desktop. This includes QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, QuickBooks Desktop Payments, and online bank feeds."
Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Candlestore,
For me, the push to Quickbooks online started about 2 years ago - my last desktop purchase was almost double in price as the previous version - this year I had to make a choice. Go with the online version or find another product. After searching quite a bit, I realized that many of the accounting software vendors have migrated to an online version also - I settled for the Quickbooks online version. The interface is quite different and I'm still learning but, so far I've managed to make it work for me. Note, I was not at all happy but, at least transferring my QB Database from Desktop to Online worked. Although some of the other vendors noted that you could do the same thing, when you looked at the details, not all of your QB Data may not go and then there's dealing with different terminology and another totally different interface. I don't have any good suggestions for your situation as everyone has different needs. It's frustrating when something you used for a long time suddenly changes and you end up feeling lost or in my situation - not a happy camper. Hopefully, you will figure out what's best for you.
Well the point that is confusing me the most is saying I have a subscription for 2021. OK but I can not renew this subscription and then I will not be able to access my data to add to it in the future without migrating to the online service, from what I am reading. But then it also says I will loose access to Payroll, Backup, etc etc all services which I currently do not use, and would not need access to. So I guess I will be looking for something else. I have been even looking through my parents old files and software thinking my dad had an old QB Desktop program. Or maybe move to Wave Accounting, but they do not have the Manufacturing items I need too..... Did I mention I hate change lol.
Thanks for the information. I was hoping I was missreading something or someone might have an idea around this.
Just a thought but, I'm pretty sure you won't be able to use an older version of Quickbooks as it cannot read a newer database - the conversion only goes one way.
