Modifiers on New Receipts Don’t Specify Which Item They Belong To

I have an item that has 3 products in, ie hoodie, t-shirt & joggers. On the new style receipt this just shows as S,M,M and doesn't specify which size matches which item. So when we come to make the item we have to remember which order they appear in on the item in the online shop. Am i missing a trick here? I have looked through the limited receipt options but can not seem to find this? When you just got a copy of the order to your inbox this was very clear, however the new receipt style is not. Any help would be amazing 🙂 thanks so much

Hi @lisab247!

Thank you so much for your patience while we got back to you. This thread was passed around internally for a bit because we’ve been upgrading and unifying Square’s receipts functionality, and we needed to confirm what the current behaviour should be compared with what’s coming next.

Most of the major updates have now rolled out, which is why your emailed receipts look a little different than before. The goal of these changes was to move Square’s order confirmation system onto the more robust digital receipts platform so that all confirmations and receipts come from the same infrastructure.

After reviewing your setup in closer detail, the issue appears to be related to how the item is bundled and the order of the modifiers attached to it. On your site, the item name is listed as HLC Dance T-Shirt, Jacket, Leggings Set, but the modifiers are ordered as jacket size, t-shirt size, legging size. If you reorder the modifiers in your Dashboard to match the item name, it should make the receipts much easier to read, you’ll then know that the sizes correspond directly to the order of the items listed when viewing the confirmation.

For standalone items (not bundles), modifiers will continue to appear underneath the item as usual. The confusion only arises because the items are bundled together in the item name. I’d recommend updating the modifier order for all items like this so that everything aligns cleanly.

To view full order details in your Dashboard, head to Payments & Invoices > Orders > All Orders. At the top of the page, switch the filter from Active to All, and ensure you update the date filter, then search for the order number. You’ll be able to see the full breakdown on the right-hand side.

Please let us know if you’d like help reviewing any other items, we’re happy to assist!

Hi @lisab247!

I'd be more than happy to try and help you get to the bottom of this!

Are you referring to Square Digital Receipts? To help me understand better, could you please share a photo of the receipt you’re seeing, including how the items and modifiers are displayed?

Ideally, modifiers should appear directly under the associated item on the receipt.

In the meantime, a helpful workaround is to check the detailed order confirmation sent to your inbox, which clearly shows this information, or review the order details on your Orders page.

Hi, thank you so much for the reply.

I have attached a screenshot of how the receipt comes into our inbox to confirm we have received an order.

This is also how it looks in the square dashboard orders area.

Thanks so much

Lisa

Thanks so much, @lisab247! Really appreciate your patience while we got back to you!

To confirm, is the screenshot you shared from your All Orders page?

As of today, we’re seeing modifiers correctly attributed to the relevant items in the order details. The screenshot you provided looks more like the digital receipt found on the Transactions page, rather than from the All Orders view.

It’s important we make sure we’re referring to the same details here. Could you please share the order number for the example above? That will help me raise this with my team for further review.

Hi, that's screenshot is from the receipt we get on the email, however it doesn't show on my all orders page either?

I haven't had a new order with multiple items on 1 listing to check but this order number was - 1303961275.

Thanks so much
