Weebly charges wrong sales tax

The sales tax for orders for pickup assessed is wrong on Weebly. My state eliminated sales tax on grocery foods last year but they are still assessed on the site. I deleted the automatic tax, but now it charges no tax at all, not the sales tax on the item in the item library (which would be the easiest thing and makes the most sense). So customers are either overtaxed or not taxed at all. What can I do? Should I call Mr. Weebly and tell him to fix it?/s

Thanks for breaking this down. I did reach out to the Support team to see if there are any workarounds for this. In the meantime, could you share your Weebly site and some examples where the rate isn't being charged correctly? so we can take a closer look and better assist?

Hey @forwardfoods happy to help!

Instead of deleting the tax entirely, could you set it up to automatically apply to everything except groceries? That way, items that need to be taxed will be, and the ones that don’t won’t.

This won't work because all items are taxed. It's the wrong rate.

I need to know how to go to Square Support Intervention, not advice from accounts from other states who do not have this issue. Thanks. though.

I’m not quite clear on what you’re trying to accomplish yet. If you’d like me to continue helping, please share a bit more detail about your goal so I can better assist.

If you’d prefer to speak directly with Support, you’re welcome to do so at 855-700-6000, from Monday to Friday, 6 AM - 6 PM, Pacific Time. That said, the Seller Community is a great space to get help from other sellers as well, since many have worked through similar situations and can share what’s worked for them.

Maybe if I bullet point this, it will help.

  • The sales tax rate assessed for orders for pickup is wrong on Weebly. It is too high..
  • This is an automatic tax tool on Weebly so I can't change it on the user end.
  • So the two choices I have are 1) collect the higher tax rate, which violates consumer law or 2) turn off tax and eat the cost (though I'd consult a tax attorney to send a bill to Square/Weebly for the tax I didn't collect and had to pay out of pocket.)
  • The right choice is Weebly figures this out, fixes this and sends an apology fruit basket to me for the hassle.

The message to the Support Team must have worked. The right tax is charged now. Thanks!
