Tiered pricing based on quantity?

I can't seem to figure out how to create an item that allows me to change pricing based on the quantity. For example an item costs $100 if they buy 1 to 5 of them. If they buy 6 to 10 of them the price dropped $80. If they buy 11+the price drops to $60.

Square support says just add variations to the item which I can do. Problem is the customer can choose the 11 plus variation and only add one to their cart. So this option doesn't work. Trying to make it so that based on how many days select for the quantity that price is automatically updated for that.

Is this possible?

Hi there @brianstoiber.  So, yeah, support definitely misunderstood your question.  You can do this, but you can not do it with item catalog pricing directly.  You’ll need to set up automatic discounts, instead.

Based on your description of this item, you would need to set up two automatic discount codes, as follows:

  • 20%QtyDiscount
  • 40%QtyDiscount

The first one would be applied when six of that item are added to the cart, and the second would be applied when 11 of that item are added to the cart.  This is because if multiple automatic discounts are applicable to a sale, the greater discount will be applied.

To set each of these up, you need to:

  • Give the discount a name and define its percentage (or flat amount).  I’d use percentage for simplicity.
  • Turn on the Discount Rules toggle.  In the pop up that comes up, select “Quantity.”
  • Enter the quantity that triggers the automatic discount.
  • Click on “Add individual items” to select the items to be discount automatically.
  • Click on “Add Discount Rules toggle” and in the popup select “Minimum quantity.”
  • Select where the automatic discount is applied — POS and/or Square Online site.
  • Save the discount rule.

Once 6 items have been added to the cart the 20% discount will be applied.  Once 11 items have been added the 40% discount will be applied and the 20% discount will be removed.  If the quantity later goes down the appropriate discount will be re-applied as defined.

I hope that helps.  Let me know if you have any other questions.

@brianstoiber ;

For this type of sales I did a Automatic Discount based on Quantity.

Problem I see for this is you have multiple buying options for the price point. 6-10 items would all have the 1 $ or % Discount unless you made Multiple discounts for 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 items purcahse of the item or category.  You could see if the $ discount of $20 would work for this or if it is a Total discount.  You could just adjust the discount by % or $ amount to acheive your goal.

So 6-10 gets a 20% discount 11 Plus gets a 40% discount per item.

If the Automatic verision does not work for you you might be able to apply the Manual Discount at the time of sale:

LOL @Candlestore I think we were both typing at the same time on this one!  At least we came up with the same answer.  Ha.
