How to Prevent Customers from Adding More Than Available Stock to Cart?

The title of this thread has been edited by a Square Moderator from the original: "How to let the customer add no more than my maximum stock to the basket"

I have a question about how to limit the maximum number of items customer could add to the basket.

I have created an item with a stock of 10, however, when updated to the online store, the customers could add like 20 items in their basket, and when check out, they will receive an error message saying that the maximum number of the item would be 10.

In this case, Is there a way to let the customer add no more than my maximum stock in the basket? Thank you very much.

Hi @Pusheen - I see this is your first post in the Square Community so I'd like to officially welcome you! 🎉👏 My name is Violet and I'm one of the Community Moderators. Nice to meet you 😊

I checked in with our Square Online Support Team and they've confirmed this is expected behavior. While the customer may be able to add more to their cart than what's in stock, the message you mentioned will make them aware there's only x amount of items in stock for them to purchase. There isn't a way to work around this in the settings, but I've passed along your feedback about this.

I hope this information is helpful, but please do let me know if you have any additional questions that I could answer for you.

Hello ,

On my products (handmade clothing business ) I have my inventory as 1 .

When a customer goes to the products they can put in more than one .

My products are 1 of a kind so can only purcahse one.

Also when that item is sold it is not saying sold out .

Im getting very fustrated .

Thankyou

Hello @Dalabri and thanks for reaching out with your question.

Another Square Seller actually reached out with a similar question a couple of weeks ago, so I've merged your post to this thread. We merge duplicate conversations together to keep like comments in one place, and to make it easier for others to find the thread in the future. Please see the earlier post from me, which has been marked as the Best Answer to this question It contains some context from the Square Online Team.

Regarding your sold out items, have you marked the items as "sold out" in your Dashboard?

I hope this information is helpful but please do let me know if you have any additional questions.
