How to Transfer a Locked Weebly Domain

I have a domain in Weebly but it is a free version.  I want to upgrade it and transfer to square but when I go to choose the original domain, the domain is locked.  How do I unlock it now that weebly is under square?  I do no know how to upgrade in weebly before the transfer.

Hi @lsumikot!

To help clarify what you’re trying to do, is the domain you’re referring to a Weebly subdomain (for example, yourname.weebly.com)? If so, those types of domains can’t be transferred or upgraded, so you’ll need to register a new custom domain instead.

If you still have access to your Weebly account and just need to unlock your existing domain, you can follow these steps:

1. Log in to your Weebly account at weebly.com.

2. Go to Settings > Domains and select your domain.

3. Look for the option to Unlock Domain, this will make it transferable.

4. Once unlocked, you can get your authorisation code (EPP code) from the same page.

5. Then, in your Square Dashboard > Online > Website > Domains, start the transfer process by entering that code.

If you’re unable to unlock your domain because you can’t sign in to Weebly, you’ll need to reach out to Square Support so they can help you verify ownership and assist with unlocking or transferring the domain. You can reach our team at 1-855-700-6000, Monday through Friday, from 6 AM to 6 PM Pacific Time.

You can also get in touch with our Messaging and Email Support Teams here: squ.re/contactsqsupport.

To summarise, here are your options:

1. If it’s a free weebly.com subdomain > register a new domain directly in Square.

2. If it’s a paid custom domain > unlock it in Weebly and transfer to Square.

Once the transfer is complete, you’ll be able to manage everything (site + domain) directly within Square Online. For any further assistance with this process, please reach out to our Support Team directly.

You were right. It was a subdomain which could not be transferred. While working with Square agent, the subdomain that I had tried to transfer (and got the message that it was in process), that subdomain was totally lost and I can no longer access it even from Square. All pages I had through that domain are gone. I had ordered the domain LSumikot.com and cannot do anything with that. It pops up every time I get on the internet but it is not configures. Xulon Press wants me to have a website to promote my book but I was told they cannot use it because there is no email to it. Perhaps I can transfer the domain to them or give them access to it?
