I own a computer repair shop, but I sell accessories and computers in my online store. I wanted to activate After Pay as an option but it says I am ineligible.
I think it is because I offer computers for sale which is on After Pay's list of restricted items, however, it says:
"Merchants may not use the Services for the following categories of Restricted Goods or Services without successfully complying with any additional underwriting, due diligence and/or conditional approval requirements agreed by APM Provider and set out in writing:
“Restricted Goods or Services” means:
(i) gift cards;
(ii) subscription goods or services;
(iii) home appliances;
(iv) adult goods;
(v) packaged alcoholic beverages;
(vi) auctions;
(vii) prescription drugs;
(viii) digital goods or video game credits;
(ix) services, in the following categories: ticketing services; software services; health services; auto services; and other personal services;
(x) electronics including (without limitation) mobile phones, computers/laptops, tablets, drones and televisions;
(xi) flash-sale business models;
(xii) human hair, hair extensions and/or cosmetic wigs
(xiii) live animals (online sales);
(xiv) precious metals;
(xv) travel;
(xvi) donations; and
(xvii) without limiting the above, any goods or services which are required by law to be sold to Customers over 18 years of age."
So according to this, I should be able to offer After Pay, you just have to manually allow it I assume? It would be a great benefit to offer the ability for my customers to finance a computer purchase.
Also on that same note, how does one offer After Pay IN my store?
Hi @PerroneTech - Thanks for stopping by The Seller Community 😊
Great Question.
At this time, AfterPay is not yet available in stores but is restricted to online sales only.
As for your online eligibility, there are a few reasons that may still not allow your customers to utilize AfterPay on your site, one reason that a lot of sellers run into is issues with their MCC code.
A Merchant Category Code (MCC) is a four-digit number used to identify retail financial services. An MCC is used to classify a business by the types of goods or services it provides.
Please confirm your MCC code with our support to ensure that isn't what's preventing this service.
Due to the public nature of The Seller Community we are unable to access specific account details through The Community. For assistance with your account, Feel free to send send a message using this contact form. Our support team will be happy to assist in resolving the matter on your account.

Hi there! We are also having an issue where we aren't eligible to use afterpay however I have seen multiple other businesses on afterpays website that sell similar items and are allowed to use afterpay. How do we go about finding our MCC code to make sure that isn't the issue?
Hi @Sexology - the best way to confirm and update your MCC Code is through our support.
At your earliest convenience contact them to ensure that is in fact the reason, and if so promptly get your business updated.

I hope this helps.
What is the MCC code? Maybe I need to contact them about this. I was eligible for afterpay then they took it away but can't give me an understanding to as why. I've been getting the run around ever since.
They don't let you see your MCC code. I would touch base with your account manager. If you don't have one, call customer service. I had an account manager change my MCC to retail which is what I am (I also fix computers, but I sell more than I fix), and now I can accept afterpay online and in-store.
We have been using Afterpay online and in-store with no real issues since it was first introduced, now we have been removed. What happened?
I understand your frustration, @ElmStreetToys! I've merged your question to this thread, where the best answer covers the next steps.
This make very little sense, I've been using Afterpay since the beginning on our website and then it became available in-store, also used it very successfully there.
Signed up and paid the $60 a month for a second location with Square, then Afterpay stops working, my have nothing to do with, but it just seems odd.
I contact Square help, go around with them, they tell me contact Afterpay, I do that and they tell me to contact Square.
Why have I done several thousands of dollars using Afterpay with no problems before and now I'm not approved??
Same, they keep giving me the run around. Only they was said is that a bug might be on the account from the merge with the two companies. I can’t get no clear answers or progress reports but that their working on it!!
Hi @MasadaLuxSpa & ElmStreetToys,
Thanks for reaching out about your issues with Afterpay, and integrating it your Square account.
There was a bug we were experiencing, but it looks to be resolved now.
Please let me know if you guys are still running into issues with your integration.
Hello MayaP, I’m still experiencing issues where’s its not available. I noticed some codes in my text when I go to edit my items description. Would I need to start my site over because of the bug? Can this issue be resolved?
Hi @MasadaLuxSpa,
Thanks for your patience.
Our team is looking further into this issue. To be honest I do not have an ETA on if and when they will have a resolution.
I wish I could provide you with a little more information right now, but I truly don't have any more insight. When we have an update we will reach back out.
We appreciate your patience while we work on this.
Have there been any additional updates regarding whether or not there has been a resolution to this?
Oh no, you are experiencing the issue as well @ThatsMyStitch. Sorry to hear that.
Can you guys please confirm what dates your Afterpay stopped working? @ThatsMyStitch @MasadaLuxSpa
Since at least August 7th. I am still able to accept Afterpay in person, but it will no longer allow me access to Afterpay online with no reason as to why.
I filed a new ticket on this Afterpay Online issue @MasadaLuxSpa @ThatsMyStitch. I will keep you guys updated as I have more information.
Since Apirl for me. I had a client purchase a training course from me and immediately after it stoped me from offering it.
And you cannot use Afterpay Online anymore too @MasadaLuxSpa?
Correct
And in person is working fine? @MasadaLuxSpa.
