Transaction Search on square register does not work

Transaction search does not work for me on square register, anyone else having this issue?

Search does not work for me at all - either by scanning receipt bar code, typing in an item name, number, etc.. For any return I have to manually scroll through all the transactions until I find it. I previously used an ipad with a square stand and it worked perfectly on that.  I've restarted, updated, searched for answers and just nothing.

Very frustrating!!!  Any help would be appreciated!

Hello @southmain and thanks for reaching out to the Square Community. I'm sorry to hear about this frustrating issue with the Transaction search feature on your Square Register 😞

I'd like to escalate this issue to our Product Team, so they can take a look.

When you have the chance, could you send over a video to show this behavior?

Thank you!

same issue. I would also like to know how to process an exchange for an item without a receipt or credit card.

I never figured out a solution but adapted the way we look things up. The receipt search works, but not from the transaction screen. Basically have to just scan the receipt from the checkout screen and it pops up. Obviously this is a problem if they don’t have the receipt. In this case I still have to manually scroll through the transactions until I can find it based on the rough date/time they made their purchase.

Would really really love to be able to search transactions by item, but it just doesn’t work.

Just adding that we would also LOVE a way to pull up a transaction from Square Register using Customer Name, Item Name, Last 4 digits, etc. Currently the only way to search for a transaction is via receipt #, which we obviously won't have if the customer doesn't have their receipt. We also use that screen to find transactions for reasons beyond returns (more often than returns actually). An example would be when a customer can't remember what size pot they purchased form us in the past, we'd want to look up their transaction to verify what they bought.

The search capability should be similar to the Transaction screen in Dashboard where you can search by all the methods you see in the screenshot attached here.
