How to replace Square reader screen

My screen shattered accidentally after a customer signed and when she handed it back it dropped. I’m trying to find a replacement screen & with no luck Square is not being helpful & it’s apparently not under warranty. Any suggestions?

Hi there, @barb73,

I’m really sorry this happened, I completely understand how frustrating this situation is. Unfortunately, after looking into it further, I haven’t been able to find the option for just a replacement screen. I truly wish I had a better solution or could be more helpful here. I know this isn’t the outcome anyone would want, and I’m very sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding, and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions.

@barb73 When you say Square reader, are you talking about the Square Terminal? If so  and if you have version 1 (manufactured before September 2024) you can find those screens on eBay.

Version 1 has the screen built into the outer housing and is connected to the unit by a 41 pin cable.   If you take your time it’s easy to replace.

If you have Version 2, the screen is more integrated, has a 61 pin connector.  It’s pretty much impossible to replace without damaging the lock out sensors.

On V1 & V2, to be PCI compliant Square has to put in tamper resistant sensors.  It consists of a security mesh.  If you damaged that your machine will automatically brick itself and become unusable.

If the crack is not that bad, have you considered putting a screen protector over it.  It will still be cracked, but the screen protector may prevent it from cracking more and may keep you from cutting your finger.
