Why Restaurant Owners Love Square

Hey F&B friends!

Our team set out on an ambitious goal to interview 30 Square Sellers in 30 days to learn more about why they like using Square, what's causing any friction, and to showcase some capabilities they might not even realize is there!

I'd love to hear from y'all though! If we were to interview you on why you like using Square, challenges you face, etc. what would you say?

Drop your thoughts in the comments below! Excited to read these 👏

Hi @maxpete ,

Ok, What we like about Square -

  • In-depth reporting - We are getting all sorts of detailed reports/data about our businses that our previous POS did not provide, such as Labor vs. Sales, Historical Analysis and Kitchen Performance.
  • Better handling and management of disputes.
  • Historical and detailed transaction details - we no longer have to take customer CC information over the phone to do a refund, compared to our previous POS.
  • Seamless Integration througout our operations - loyalty, time tracking/scheduling, inventory, website and other operational interfaces.
  • Hundreds of options for third party interfaces.

What we wish Square could do better -

  • Improvements to Square Marekting and Loyalty, specifically;
  • The ability to hit one button during payment to "round up" for a Charity that we select.
  • The ability to re-order the modifier groups in Restaurants based on what one would call "common sense" asking the guest what they want instead of forced by "required" and "optional" like it is now.

Please let me know if you would like further information and thanks for asking!

Hey Pete,

I'm going to send an email to my team and ask your questions.  If you don't mind giving me a couple days, I'll get back to you.

Hi There,

I love Square from day one for one reason that it is very simplistic to setup.

On top of it, there are a lot of integrated features which can be used, Square online, KDS, Marketing, Loyalty, Gift cards.. All are integrated and seemless.

At the same time, I feel frustrated on missing some of the simple features hard to setup.

Some popular discounting/couponing used widely in restaurant industry is hard to implement.

I think Square need to invest more on improving discountingcoupoining for restaurants.

Resturant need a lot of referrals, discounting, offers but those should be easy to implement.

Happy to talk about that if needed

Cheers

I am a big fan of Square, here are some reasons

  • Cost, it has so many features for free that other POS systems cahrge thousand to ten's of thousands for
  • Ease of use for staff. We have staff from 13 to 65, and it's quite straightforward and easy for them to use.
  • Ease of use from a BOH point of view. Whilst I am reasonably skilled at POS, I haven't needed any help to setup.
  • Upgradeable features are well priced and modular, so you can keep price down.
  • Easy intergration to website and Printful and the like

Some cons for me

  • Square Loyalty not having the ability to scan their mobile number from a membership card. I understand the reasons Square went away from physical cards. Because we are a bar where people are purchasing multiple orders in a night, having to ask them what thier number is in front of other patrons and input multiple times is too time consuming.
  • New Features not being communicated well enough. Square has gone ahead in leaps and bounds in the last couple of years, but if it wasn't for me looking at a second venue, I wouldn't know about so many features both Hardware and Software. I try very hard to keep up with news as well.
  • Some little changes to till layouts, ability to change the Quick Cash (the pre-programmed amounts for change), ability to have words on the button pictures, ability to press "select all" or "deselct all" when i comes to Print to Kitchen Categories
  • Website category layout not as customizable as I'd like. I really want a combination of the auto layouts
  • Printer drop out issues, I have been plagued by printer/connection issues for years, and have reported it numerous times, but no luck. Reported it again a couple weeks ago, haven't got a response
