[Upcoming feature] Stylist pricing & duration

Hi Health & Beauty sellers,

We’re excited to share that Stylist pricing & duration is in the works!

What it is

Set a different price and duration for each staff member who performs a service. For example, the same service could cost $65 with one stylist and $110 with another - without creating separate services or variations.

We’d love your feedback on two specific areas:

1. Setting a base price and duration

Each service would have a base price and duration that applies to your whole team. You’d only need to customize the staff members who charge a different price or need more time.

Anyone without a customization would continue using the base settings, including whenever you update them.

Does this match how you manage pricing today, or do you think of every stylist’s price and duration separately?

2. Changing the stylist on an appointment

Imagine a client books with Maya for $80, but Chris(who charges $120) ends up performing the service.

• Before the appointment: Should the price automatically update to Chris’s rate, or should the client keep the price they were originally quoted?
• After the appointment has been completed and paid for: Should you be able to charge or refund the difference, or should the payment stay the same while you update the stylist for commission and tip reporting?

Hey! Thank you for this! I would absolutely use this feature - we have different tier options now and have to create individual services for. This would make booking more simplified for the client. 

we would also love the ability to set our service modifiers to certain service providers. 

for instance, we have a modifier to add dermaplaning to a facial, but only 2 of the 4 prodividers offer dermaplaning, but all 4 providers can provide the facial. 

it would be easiest to assign all 4 providers the facial, and then the modifier can be added on only if the client is booking with a provider who offers that treatment. I hope that makes sense!!

I’m just curious on what would the difference be on what I’m doing now vs the new features? I have like 2 options under lets say a Haircut of Senior Stylist and Junior Stylist and options with prices and different duration already.

Yes we should have the ability to change each stylist price and duration.

i also believe there should be a way we can change the commission rate for different services and for each stylist.

It looks great for a salon. with multiply staff.  I am a solo artist. I am disappointed Square is moving a way from solo Artist. Adding new features totally unnecessary for a solo artist and raising the price. I am actively looking after over 20 years with square at a new system. Taking away Processing time. Going from $29 to $49 a month for simple necessary features for a solo artist. It is poop of square.

1. I would love to test it out.

2. Being that I have multiple stylists with different price points, it would be nice to create a service and assign it to the appropriate stylists. However, the price/rate would be linked to the stylist and the duration would be linked to them as well. Or maybe have it so that it’s a set duration BUT there is an option to modify the duration for that appointment and when the client goes to rebook, they can rebook last appointment or a previous appointment and the duration is copied from that appointment. So if the stylist set duration is 2 hrs but that particular client takes 3hrs the stylist can adjust the duration on the appointment, it would save, adjust the cost automatically, and be set for the next time the client books.

Currently, I am creating services based on the stylist and creating variations (services they provide). If the client needs more time they have to edit the service and change it to a service that matches the time that they took.

I love the deposit feature, but a pre pay feature would be great. Some clients would like to pay before they arrive. Another thing that would be great is being able to reopen the ticket to make modifications, maybe within 30-1hr, after that the ticket is officially closed.

This is a huge need! It will clean up the services menu SO MUCH. I would love to test this out. We currently have a sub-menu for each stylist, but then the calendar will only reflect "[stylist's] services" not the specific sub- sub- service. 🙂 This will be wonderful.

The other feature that would change our lives is if we could have certain days (like Tuesday) be all for one type of service: cuts only. Or New Clients on Thursdays, only. If we could manage those service settings, we could open up more automatic booking rather than doing it all manually.

Finally, we need profile photos. The current method is to upload files, but it takes just too many clicks and steps to do it that way or to access them! We need to see faces and remember hair type before we approve or make estimates of some services.
