Square terminal update?

Did I miss any announcement of a Square termianl update rolling out that completly changes the item selection view.  I think I like it but yesterday was one way and now today it is different.  Just always such a jarring experience to be trying to check someone out and I have no idea what I am looking at.  I see something about tile varriations so maybe that is it.  But everything was up to date cause I check almost daily and then this one unit, I haven't checked the other 5 was suddenly different.  I know I do love the qty stays locked at the bottom.

@VanKalkerFarms  You’re not alone in this. On the FB group I lurk in, there are some sellers grumbling about the change on their Register too:

I’m using Restaurants so I’m not seeing any update…. Yet. And yeah, I haven’t seen any release notes talking about this at all.

Hate to say it, but this goes back to the “change for the sake of change” issue Square has been known for over the years. Unless there’s some underlying architecture change that required this, I really don’t understand why this is what the dev team wanted to spend time on when there are quite a few feature requests that could be tackled.

I’ve also noticed that on my terminals in Restaurants mode, I now have icons in the top black bar instead of Printers, Scanners, etc. That’s a welcome change!

I'm not opposed to, and may like it more, it just that I wasn't prepared.   It has been a request of mine for years and years about the qty being at the end of the list and having to scroll thru 50 items to get to the qty sucked.  And I'm sure others have asked for a better list, just again, a word of warning that you may be getting dozens of calls from employees.  I can't imagine if it was at a franchise like IndianaThomas runs.

Hi there, I'm Stephanie on the POS team. We did indeed a release a number of changes today, and actually want to use the opportunity to address your feedback and share what's coming:

1. Thanks for the feedback on Item Details. We redesigned this to be faster and more in line with the general UI changes we're making across Square. This is built this to be faster, and we had tested this in Beta with 70k+ sellers. We will continue to iterate based on feedback (for instance some sellers are complaining the tiles are too small for their very long item / modifier names).

2. We know changes to sellers workflows and UI can feel disruptive, and we want to minimize this as much as possible. Starting from today, we're are bundling up larger features every 2 weeks and will pre announce in advance. We actually released 6 features - either today, or coming within the week. You can see them all here on our new Release Notes page. We'll update this every 2 weeks, announcing changes coming next week.

I was excited to see the update as I was hoping this meant that i could finally see images assigned to variations in my register. Unfortunately this is not the case. This seems like a first step though, now that the shape of the buttons have changed it looks like they could better fit variation images? One can only hope.

I hate the new interface. So many more presses when inputting multiple items. Boo!

I feel like it is now less.  especially witth the qty locked to the ottom of the screen.  no more scrolling through 50 items to get to the qty.   Just did a few tests side by side and because V1 hardware is locked to the old style I have both versions.  and it is definetly less clicks simply because you don't have to scroll to the bottom.  if there are only a few items and you don't have to scroll then it is the exact same number of clicks.  Overall it should be less becuase there will be less scrolling with more items on screen at a time.
