Hi F&B folks! 👋
We’re excited to share that Open Tabs for Online Ordering Profiles is now available in Early Feature Access!
What it is
Open Tabs lets customers start a tab from their Online Ordering Profile, continue adding items throughout their visit, and pay when they're ready to close out. Staff can view and manage the same tab from Square Point of Sale, making it easier to serve dine-in guests without interrupting the ordering experience.
We’re looking for restaurants, bars, coffee shops, bakeries, and other F&B sellers to try it out and share feedback with our team.
To get started:
You'll need to be on a Square Plus or Premium plan and have Online Ordering Profiles enabled.
Since this is an early feature, your input directly shapes where it goes next. Share your feedback here throughout the beta — what's working, what isn't, and what you'd like to see improved 🙌.
Hi everyone 👋! Open Tabs is officially out of beta, so we’ll be closing this channel.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who gave it a try, shared feedback, and told us when something wasn’t working 🙏. You helped us catch issues we wouldn’t have found on our own and made Open Tabs better for the sellers who’ll use it next.
The Volume 12 release blog features Open Tabs and shares a few examples of how your feedback shaped the launch. We’d still love to hear how Open Tabs is working for you. You can share product feedback in the community feedback hub, and reach us through the usual support channels if you have questions or run into issues.
Thank you again for being part of this with us!
Ok, thank you for the help. I thought that was controlled at the menu level so I adjusted those but not at the business level. I will adjust and re-test. Thank you!
This did not fix the issue of not accepting orders message. I tested it last evening during our scheduled open hours and everything looked the same.
Actually, it looks like it is working now. I changed the preview from Mobile to QR and it looked right. I downloaded updated qr code, scanned and it appears to be working on my iphone. I'll be testing at the brewery later this evening.
@RazakM Is this something you would look at? I was hoping to test this weekend if possible. Excited to try this in production!
Hi @yardgoat , Sorry for the delay. The printing issues was a known problem. We've since put out a fix for the issue now. Are you still running into this problem?
@RazakM Thank you for the response. I will test again this evening to see. I will report back.
I tested this again Friday evening and the problem still existed. The items entered at the time the tab was opened printed as expected. But the following tab additions did not print
Thanks for testing @yardgoat. Apologies for the inconvenience here.
Will look into what might be causing the issue again
Hi @yardgoat,
Looked into this and there was a backend setting that hadn’t been enabled, which was preventing the tickets coming from the POS from printing. This has now been fixed.
Could you please test again when you get a chance?
@RazakM Ok, thank you. I will test it in the next few nights if I can. I assume I'll have to temporarily adjust our operating hours to allow me to test on nights we're not scheduled to be open.
@RazakM I was able to test the printing fix for items added to the tab. And it worked correctly!
now, the one glaring issue that remains is how to make the printed ticket more legible. It has a lot of random information. I tried turning different toggles off, but then I lost the table/bar location I ordered from.
are there any other options? Or can the ticket be updated to make it more concise? The top shows name followed by “Ordering Profile - Web 59”. Anything that gets close to replicating the standard ticket would be ideal.
Hi @yardgoat, That’s awesome to hear! I’m glad the printing is working now.
Regarding the content on the tickets, that’s really helpful feedback. I’ll follow up with the team that owns that area to see what options are available today.
Hi @yardgoat, For some additional insights, could you please share which details you’d like to see on the tickets and which ones you’d prefer to leave out? That context would be helpful when I follow up with the team.

@RazakM Just checking back to see if you have any updates on the ticket format. Thanks
Hi @yardgoat , Apologies for the delay here. Following with the team to see what other customization options might be available for the printed tickets or if theres anything that can be done to make this better.
@RazakM Checking back to see if you have found anything out regarding the look of the printed tickets. Thank you!
Hi @yardgoat ,
Thanks for your patience while I looked into this, and I'm sorry it took me a while to get back to you. Here's what I found.
What you can adjust now
Go to Settings → Device management → Printer profiles → Online & kiosk order tickets. Profile orders typically use these settings rather than the in-person ticket settings. Square's guide to printing order tickets has more detail on the options below.
What you can't change yet
I know the available settings don't fully address the layout you're looking for. I've shared your sample tickets and feedback with the team so they can look into them as well.
@RazakM Ok, thank you so much for the response and the help.
